Auto theft prevention with Operation Cold Start

From January 20-24, 2025, the Grande Prairie RCMP, along with other law enforcement agencies across Alberta, participated in Operation Cold Start.

This initiative aims to reduce the theft of idling vehicles during cold weather by working with the public. Officers checked unattended, idling vehicles for keys and proper security, educating owners on winter vehicle safety.

This year, the Grande Prairie RCMP found 102 vehicles idling with keys in the ignition and engaged with 123 vehicle owners about safeguarding their vehicles and property in cold conditions.
