It's been years in the making for our Made in Manitoba guest, Altona's Maxine Jade (Maxine Penner off-stage) has been writing songs and poetry for many years but finally found her way into a professional studio and with the help of Andrew Braun and Laura Smith crafted her first ever album "A Collection of Affection"
Most of Maxine's music started out as poetry and prayers which she would simply sing out on the piano to help release feelings and connect with the lord but as the years went on, she has refined them into beautiful songs that fill this brand-new album.
Maxine herself has a hard time pinning down exactly what genre her music falls into, she used the "singer/songwriter" umbrella as an all-encompassing idea but she has also mentioned that the album reflects a bit of folk, slow-ballad, soft country and maybe even a tiny bit of funk.
Maxine had this to say about the intent of the album, "That's just something I have experienced is the Lord giving words of comfort and love and assurance and really a song over me and over us, so that is kind of what the inspiration or the heart behind this album was. Just like a love project unto the Lord. I know it has been so valuable to me, like a gift really, to be able to work on it and to whomever it may find, it's my heart that it would just make a home in them and be the presence of love and even move us to walk in love."
Maxine hosted an album release concert on Saturday, May 10th at The Krahn Barn in Neubergthal and you can enjoy the full album of photos from the event below:
