Two youths were taken to hospital following a UTV/semi crash Monday morning on Highway 244 in the R.M. of Treherne.

According to RCMP, when officers arrived on scene, they discovered a semi-truck on the shoulder of the highway, facing north, and the UTV laying in the ditch on the west side of the road.

Initial investigation determined the UTV, being driven by a teenage boy, with a male youth passenger was headed north on the highway, when a semi-truck moved into the passing lane to pass the slow moving UTV.  Police say, the UTV made a sudden turn across the road in front of the semi-truck and was struck by the semi.

According to RCMP, neither youth in the UTV was wearing a seat belt or a helmet.

The driver of the UTV was transported by STARS to hospital in critical condition, while the other youth was taken to hospital by EMS in serious, but non-life-threatening condition. Their conditions have since been upgraded to stable.

Treherne RCMP, along with the Criminal Collision Investigation Team and Traffic Analyst continue to investigate.
