Pembina Valley RCMP are still looking for leads in a gas theft we told you about last week.

Sometime between July 16th and the 18th, about 900 gallons of diesel fuel and 250 gallons of gas, worth over $5,500, had been siphoned out of fuel tanks on a rural property seven miles south of Winkler.

According to Sgt. Darcy Thiessen, no tips have come in so far.

"I know the farmer spoke to some of the neighbours but, so far, we've got no suspects identified and we've got no real leads as to where this fuel ended up," he said.

While these types of thefts don't happen often, or aren't reported to police, Sgt. Thiessen noted they do happen, especially on remote properties like this one.

"In this case, it was described as an abandoned property. It's used by farmers for their convenience. They farm in the area so it's just convenient to have fuel close by for their tractors and equipment."

While the farmer doesn't live on the property, Sgt. Thiessen says they did all they could to protect the property by locking the fuel tanks.

Anyone with information that may be useful to the investigation is asked to contact Carman RCMP at 204-745-6760 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a secure tip online.
