Police believe a driver involved in a head-on collision may have been impaired.
On Monday (May 23) at around 6 p.m., the Morinville RCMP along with military police and other emergency services, responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 28 at the Sturgeon Road intersection.
An initial report to the RCMP was that an SUV travelling northbound made a u-turn and collided head-on with a motorcycle.
A 62-year-old woman on the motorcycle died in hospital from her injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 37-year-old man, was detained by police for further investigation.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that driving impairment may be a contributor to this head on collision,” police said in a release.
A further update will be provided once the scene is clear.
