Robert and Karley Finnegan are an uncle and niece duo cycling across Canada to raise funds and awareness for Crohn's disease.

Residing on a farm just outside of Redwater, the two made the trip to Victoria, B.C., on May 26 to dip their bike tires in the Pacific Ocean to signify the start of their journey.

Now, they are just over 20 days into their trip and have run into many ups and downs, primarily due to the extreme weather conditions in southern Alberta.

"We were just talking about bike trips, and then the idea of an ultimate bike trip came up," said Robert.

Robert and his sister have both been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. They are doing a fundraiser as part of the cycling trip in coordination with Crohn's and Colitis Canada.

"We are done the Rockies now, which was tough. We didn't have a whole lot of rest days going through the Rockies. We were trying to get to Lake Louise at a certain time, which we somehow stuck to that timeline."

They cycled 106 kilometres from Canmore into Calgary while being hailed on for most of that route.

"It's going to be less physical and more mental going through the prairies now."

Once they reach the other side of Canada, they will dip their bike tires into the Atlantic Ocean to symbolize the end of the ride.

The total trip will be just over 8,000 kilometres.
