The Rangers Athletic Club (RAC) has selected a new head coach for its U16 AA team.
Former Vancouver Canuck, Zenith Komarniski, will take over the age group for the 2022-23 season.
Born in Edmonton, Komarniski was drafted to the NHL in 1996. He played 18 games with the Canucks and was later traded to The Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2003 - 2004 season. Komarniski spent most of his career playing in the WHL and the AHL under affiliate teams.
Another impressive achievement Komarniski holds is being selected to play for Team Canada in the World Junior U20 Championships in 1998.
"There are far and few opportunities to actually get to be a head coach. My choice was to try for the U16 AA. I have been with the kids for a couple of years, a few years ago, and it would be nice to get back on the ice and see how I can help them develop further," explained Komarniski.
According to Robert Stecyk, the president of RAC, Komarniski previously coached RAC's U13 AA level, of which his son, Miller Komarniski, was a member.
"He has a great diversity of playing experience," said Stecyk.
The RAC has also announced the addition of Daniel Down as head coach of the U15AA team for the 2022-23 season.
Registration for the upcoming RAC season ends on July 15.
