The Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre will be hosting the community tonight to showcase all the different sports and activities you can sign up for!
While REVS is staying online, the Sports Centre is excited to host an in-person event to show off all the opportunities you and your kids have to stay active. Manager of the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre Lisa Montgomery explained some of what they're offering.
"We have partnered with FCSS (Family and Community Support Services) and we are offering the sports centre community nights. And what it's involving is showcasing some of the groups like Strathmore soccer, Strathmore fast pitch, pickleball. And they're going to come and have some tables up on our track and then we will also be hosting demos of some of the sports and classes that will be offered here in the fall."
Other programs that will be there involve CLS Basketball, Seniorcise, Barre Body Blitz, High Fitness, and Active Start. Montgomery explained some of these are new to the community
"We're very excited to be able to offer this free to the community so they can see what is coming new in the fall and what programs are here for youth and adults. and some of these are new programs."
Barre Body Blitz is one of the new programs, and that's a once a week program that gets your whole body moving!
"It's a full body workout that involves dance moves from Barre, as well as using light weights and bands. And then there will be little blitzes of cardio."
They even have things for toddlers and small children, as Active Start is a program for 3-5 year olds.
"It's an introduction to physical literacy skills involving games introducing kids to basic physical literacy skills, so running, jumping. and then growing each skill to the next level."
The event will go from 4 to 6 p.m, with community bingo taking place after from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Sports Centre will also begin doing PD day camps from 9 to 5 on days where kids are off school, as well as starting a pilot project where they're opening at 6 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, instead of the usual 8 a.m. start. This begins on September 19.
