On the fifth and final day of Meals on the Farm, we headed southwest to St. Pierre. We joined Ron Vermette and his family and brought lunch from Mennonite Heritage Village along with other prizes from our sponsors.
RMV Farms Ltd. manages 5500 acres of oats, wheat, soybeans, canola and corn. Vermette is a part of the third generation to manage the farm. He is currently training the fourth with his son attending the University of Manitoba to study agriculture, hoping to take over one day.
Vermette reflects on the change in farming, as he was able to witness the evolution of it through his dad, who started at their current location.
“What I find amazing is the change,” Vermette said. “It used to be so simple to something that’s fairly complex.”
However, there is one thing that hasn’t changed. It’s the heart and dedication of farmers. To all farmers, thank you for all your hard work, we appreciate you! To the Vermette family, thank you for letting us visit. It was the perfect way to wrap up this year’s Meals on the Farm!
Finally, thank you to our sponsors who have made this past week possible!
