With bags of chips, mini donuts, and the all-refreshing lemonade, the Nerbas and Kalyn families have already raised over $3,000 for the Stollery Children's Hospital on Lemonade Stand Day.
Last Saturday (Aug. 27) from 11 a.m to 2 p.m the families set up their 'Squad Squeezers' lemonade stand to help raise money for the Stollery, a tradition the families have been doing for the last five years. Since then they've raised thousands of dollars for the hospital.
The families have a deep connection with the Stollery, as team leaders Whitney Nerbas and Candice Kalyn have children who have been patients at the hospital.
Whitney's son Jace was diagnosed with hydronephrosis and had his left kidney removed on his third birthday, while Candice's daughter Cecily was born with congenital heart disease, which led to a heart transplant as an infant.
The families are still close with the hospital, with the children still going on routine checkups and the occasional surgery. Both Jace and Cecily were at the stand handing out lemonade and snacks to anyone who stopped by.
The Squad Squeezers were met by friends, neighbours, motorcycle enthusiasts, and even the fire department all looking to help donate. Whitney said that her and the Squad Squeezer team are grateful for the support from the community.
"Thank you to everyone for coming out... Thank you to our community. Fort Sask is an amazing community to be a part of for something like this," Whitney said.
Although the team has passed their goal of $2,000, the earnings are still being counted and donations can still be made by visiting their website.
