The S.R.S.S. is hosting an event this month to help students and the public learn about education and career options.
Guidance Counsellor Michael Thiessen says presenters will be at the high school on October 13th.
“We know students are in various stages of preparation, of thinking, in terms of what they're going to do with their lives,” he says. “So, by no means are people making a final decision, but we like to expose them to as many options as we can and advise them any way we can. So, it's great guidance counselor and student time. Usually, we generate a lot of student visits out of this, preparing for university, preparing for future employment and that kind of thing.”
The event will carry into the evening and Thiessen says that is when the public is welcome to attend.
“We’d love to see as many people from the community come out as possible to support our 40-plus presenters,” he says. “So, we're going to have people from the career fields, people from post-secondary fields, all in the Gold Gym at the S.R.S.S. during the day and students will be able to again browse those booths and ask questions of those people. As well, we're going to have that evening event, we're going to have about 80 percent of our presenters return and then be able to present to the public.”
The S.R.S.S. Options event runs on October 13th during the day for students and then from 6pm to 8pm it is open to the public.
