Students walking down the runway at the SRSS Grad Fashion Show

The SRSS Grad Fashion Show took place on Thursday evening after a two-year hiatus due to COVID restrictions.

Kaleigh Henrikson from Applied Commerce at SRSS says it was a great feeling seeing everything go back to normal this year.

Many students recognize the fashion show as the kickoff to the grad festivities.

Henrikson finds herself getting emotional from time to time because of what the students have been through the past two and a half years.

“These students were in grade 9 when the pandemic hit, so for them to be in grade 12 and to just celebrate themselves and celebrate their grad year, finally and normally, has just been really awesome to see.”

A lot of students and staff were involved in making sure this fashion show went off without a hitch.

The carpentry students designed and built the backdrop for the stage.

The custodial staff were working since 7am Thursday morning to get the stage set up.

The welding department made curtain rods.

The hair and aesthetics departments did the models' hair.

Needless to say, it was a pretty big production.

“It takes a lot of people to make this possible, but we work with a lot of amazing people here and everyone is just so willing to jump in and help out because they just know how important it is for the kids.”

The show’s content itself consisted of three different categories: casual, semi-formal, and formal.

They started preparing the outfits as far back as August, asking different clothing businesses in Steinbach if they wanted to participate in the fashion show.

"They provide us all the looks, so we have six places that have contributed their clothes for the students to use, and then students get to go get fitted with the clothes and everything. It's a really cool experience for them.”

All of the formal dresses from the show were from Christie’s Bridal in Steinbach, and all of the suits were from Eph Apparel in Winnipeg.
