Sam Marburg of the Broncos receives his $2000 Rotary Scholarship from Rotarians Peter Neufeldt, Brian Cocks and Dale Link.

Just prior to Saturday night's Humboldt Broncos game against the Battlefords North Stars, Broncos’ forward Samuel Marburg received a special award from the Rotary Clubs of Saskatchewan. This was the fourth annual presentation of the Humboldt Broncos Rotary Scholarship. Rotary District 5550 and those from beyond donated a total of $10,000 to establish five annual scholarships for Broncos.

“The Scholarships were established in response to the Broncos tragedy to recognize and support a Humboldt Broncos hockey player who shows concern for others, provides service to the community, and demonstrates an attitude of service above self,” said Rotary Past District Governor Peter Neufeldt to the fans gathered at the Uniplex. Also on hand were Past District Governor Brian Cocks and Rotarian Dale Link.

Marburg skated to centre ice to receive the award and participate in the ceremonial puck drop. Marburg was chosen by the Humboldt Broncos leadership team for this year based on the respect he has earned from his opponents, from his teammate and from the people in our community.

Neufeldt also took a moment to thank Humboldt Broncos parents and other participants for their work in advocating change to transport legislation and in making the nation’s highways safer for all to travel on.
