The Mayor of Morris is pleased to see work to flood-proof Highway 75 south of town appears to be in the final stages. Crews were unable to finish the job last year, leaving a portion of the dike extension on the northbound lanes.
"It's been great to see," said Scott Crick. "The Province of Manitoba, they gave us a commitment last fall to get the diking done as quickly as possible this year. Great to see the progress they've made. It actually looks like they're getting surprisingly close to being complete."
When all is said and done, the major highway will be brought to the same level as North Dakota's I-29, keeping it open during flood season outside of a once-in-a-century event, noted Crick.
"And that's significant for the community," he said. "Outside of a once-in-a-century flood, it'll be business as usual, and I know that's very, very important."
The Mayor is also pleased to see the repairs happening on Highway 75 north of Morris.
Last August, the Province announced an investment of more than $61 million to restore the segment of the road from Morris to Ste. Agathe. Concrete reconstruction work on the 24.5-kilometre section began on May 15th and is scheduled to be completed by fall.
