From Super Mario under the stars to jumping frogs, it is an action-packed weekend for the southeast.
St. Pierre’s Frog Follies and Agricultural Fair is happening from Thursday, August 10, to Sunday, August 13. President Roxanne Gagne says the four-day festival is “jam-packed with different events,” and with the help of the Ag Society, they can offer more.
“Now, we're collaborating with the Ag Society of St. Pierre to do both the Ag Fair and the Frog Follies at the same time,” Gagne explains.
Festivities will take place at Carillon Park and the area, and it kicks off on Thursday with Frog Follies bingo.
“This is always super popular. Everybody looks forward to the Frog Follies bingo on the Thursday night. The doors open at 6:00 for that,” she says.
There is no shortage of youth entertainment, including bubble soccer, laser tag, bouncy castles and more. There will also be many musical and dance performances from folk, Indigenous and rock groups.
On Saturday, they will have a parade which starts at 11 AM. Before the parade at 9 AM, there is a bike decorating competition for children with awards available, including the best decorated and most original.
To wrap up the weekend on Sunday, they will host a highly anticipated competition: the VIP National Frog Jumping Championships.
“It is going to be a ton of fun,” she says. “So, we've selected some very important people from the community, like the mayor and other people from different regions and they are going to be jumping frogs and competing.”
Gagne adds that Frog Follies is more than a weekend of activities, and she looks forward “to see people from the community reconnect with the roots.”
“We're a francophone community. It’s the idea of just continuously remembering our roots, always bringing it back to heritage, always bringing it back to we’re grassroots small town. And we love living where we live, so let's celebrate it,” she says.
