This Sunday, Sept 3rd, is the annual Dunrea Flea Market, the highlight of all treasure hunters across Manitoba and Saskatchewan, where antiques and oddities are found at every turn and on every table. One feels a sense of nostalgia as you see dishware, books, antique furniture, and a multiple of collections that you yourself once enjoyed in years past!
"It is always an amazing day," says Boissevain Kinette member, and co-organizer of the event, Lindsay McDonald. "We have vendors from all over Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and anything you're looking for, you'll probably find at this flea market!"
The Dunrea Flea Market has its roots in the town of Dunrea as a flea market that specialized in antiques, but it grew in size so much so that it was moved to the Boissevain Ag Grounds, and it continue to grow now boasting over 100 vendors and filling the curling rink, the skating arena and the grounds in between!
The flea market is held annually on the Sunday of the Labor Day weekend, and has seen all sorts of weather, from pouring rain to blistering hot. It looks like it will be blue skies and HOT for Sunday's forecast. "It will go rain or shine," notes McDonald. "If it's hot, we're there - if it's raining, we're there!"
"Every time I do a lap around, I see something new! I think I've seen everything, but I haven't! It's just a fun treasure hunt for everyone who comes," she adds.
The Dunrea Flea Market is hosted by the Boissevain-Morton Kinsmen and Kinettes and all funds raised through the $5 entry fee goes back into the community, such as the new Aquatic Centre, the local library, the local theatre. Last year's numbers exceeded 1700 people, not including vendors or event volunteers.
Gates open at the Boissevain Ag Grounds at 11:00 am and will be closing at 4 pm on Sunday, September 4th.
