Mini version of Big Brothers Big Sisters Fuse program set to launch

The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Plains are putting on a first-job readiness program for students fourteen and older. It's called Mini Fuse and is for students who are interested in getting their first job.

The four-week course covers:

  • Resume building
  • Interviewing
  • Reading a paycheque
  • Job skills

All of these topics will be done with more of a hands-on approach. This is the second time that they have run this program. The regular Fuse program lasts longer and involves discussions about school.

Flocking Flamingos flying at great speed

Reaching Home, a subdivision of the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC), is having major success in it's Flocking Flamingos Fundraiser.

PCRC has had lots of interest from many people in our community.

The community facilitator Rachel Templeton is excited as the fundraiser has been successful thus far.

"We've just only been about two, maybe three weeks into it and I believe we've had at least ten bookings and a few completed flockings," Adds Templeton. "I've even seen some at Southport and some of the businesses."

Portagers helping Ukraine from afar

A few Portagers are thankful for how the community supported their fundraiser last week.

Debbie Drain, along with eight of her friends and family members, raised over $1300 for the families of Ukraine, all by making perogies. Drain outlines how the idea came about.

"I was watching the news and I saw some ladies that got together and made perogies with their church group," says Drain. "I thought we could do this, so then I asked a few friends and my family, and then we went from there."

Library Invites children to do Easter egg hunt

The Library has set up three different times for children to look for easter eggs and work on some fun crafts. The library is splitting up age groups so, they can make the egg hunt as well as the crafts more challenging as they move up in the age groups. The first group is for children from the age of three to five there hunt will start at 10:30 a.m. and will come to a close at 11:30.
