Update: QEII crash near Airdrie: Emergency crews on scene

A motor vehicle collision on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (QEII) southbound lanes east of Crossfield has been cleared.

Drivers were previously warned of lane closures, no-passing zones, and significant traffic congestion.

UPDATE: Multiple power outages reported north of Airdrie

According to Fortis Alberta, there were several power outages north of Airdrie but have since been fixed

They were reporting the outages near Carstairs, Crossfield and Olds, which are affecting around 60 customers.

According to Fortis, the reason behind the outages is because of snow and ice build-up. 

Yesterday and this morning Airdronians were also reporting their power flickering all throughout the city.

Multi-Vehicle collision slows traffic on QEII

A multi-vehicle collision on Highway 2 northbound near Township Road 310 just south of the Didsbury overpass is causing delays.

Witnesses say it looks like a lorry attempted to cross the highway in this morning's heavy fog when several vehicles crashed into its side.

The slow lane remains clear, but drivers are urged to reduce speed and use caution in the area. Crews are on the scene.

There is no word yet on injuries or when the scene will be fully cleared.

WATCH: Airdrie RCMP remain on scene after an early morning fire

Early this morning at approximately 4:50 a.m., Airdrie RCMP received a report of a fire impacting multiple residential structures at the corner of McCulloch Crescent and Madison Drive in Irricana.

The Airdrie RCMP along with EMS and fire services from Irricana, Rocky View County, Crossfield and Airdrie responded to assist in extinguishing the blaze.

Many emergency service vehicles and personnel remain on scene. No serious injuries are reported at this time. The fire has now been extinguished.

Update: Airdrie motorists: Tow ban, travel disruptions on QEII due to extreme weather

On Wednesday afternoon, a tow ban that had previously been implemented for parts of Alberta was lifted. While towing services have resumed, road conditions in some areas may still pose challenges for drivers. Authorities are urging motorists to remain cautious.

On Tuesday evening, the RCMP in central Alberta advised against travel along QEII between Edmonton and Calgary due to extreme weather conditions.
