Perfect Day for Giving Back: Olymel BBQ Supports Local Food Bank and Farmers
It was a perfect day for a barbecue in Humboldt on Thursday.
After being forced indoors last year, the Olymel Giving Back Together was rewarded with a great day to spend lunch outdoors and enjoy a pork souvlaki burger outside of the Olymel office near Highway 5 east.
VP of Production and Procurement for Western Canada for Olymel Casey Smit was pleased with the event during the lunch hour.
Harvest progresses in Humboldt area, Province behind seasonal average
Harvest is moving forward in the Humboldt region, with 27 per cent of crops now combined. Progress varies locally, with census divisions ranging from 24 to 31 per cent complete.
Scattered rainfall caused minor delays in parts of the region. Porcupine Plain recorded the highest amount with 18 millimetres, while Arborfield received 16 and Kelvington 13. Most other areas saw less than a centimetre of precipitation, and some fields received none at all.
Broncos trade D Eric Stelbasky to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard
With the regular season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League beginning a week from tomorrow, the Humboldt Broncos made a move on Thursday.
They traded 2006-defenceman Eric Stelbasky to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
In return, the Broncos received a Player Development Fee.
High School Football Week 2 schedule
The second week of high school football will get underway on Friday. A few teams will be making their season debut this week.
Both Humboldt and Watrous started the season with wins on home turf.

Fundraising begins to bring permanent lights to Glenn Hall Park
The Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks will be playing under the lights on Friday night, when they host the Delisle Rebels in their annual primetime battle under the temporary lights situated at Glenn Hall Park.
A local group is working towards having all of the Mohawk football games along with other sports under the brights.
Sask NDP plants to introduce legislation for public notice for emergency room closures
When the fall sitting begins at the Legislature next month in Regina, the opposition New Democrats are intending to introduce legislation about the public notifications for emergency room closures.
The Sask NDP said on Wednesday, would require a formal public notification of all emergency room closures in the province after months of analysis and testimonials from people who were unable to access emergency healthcare in rural communities.
HCAA Sr. Golf Pre-District Results
HCAA Senior Golf Pre-District events were held in Humboldt and Lanigan on Wednesday.
The top 12 finishers in both male and female event who met the cut line advanced to the District Championships in Wynyard.

Wildcats poised for a big season under the lights
The Winston High Wildcats Football team in Watrous got off to a strong start to their season in six-man football.
On Friday night, the Wildcats defeated the Clavet Cougars 54-14.
Clavet has been a thorn in the side of the Wildcats recently, as they’ve claimed the last three provincial champions in 2A Six Man Football.
Terry Fox Legacy lives on with Humboldt Run this weekend
A tradition that honours of the greatest heroes in Canadian history will continue this weekend in Humboldt.
The Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday, beginning at 10:00 at Midland Glass.
Organizer Brittany Petit welcomes everyone to the event.

Warm afternoons and mild nights expected to continue
It likely won’t be a record breaker, but this week is shaping up to be a pleasant one around Humboldt.
After a cold front brought cooler weather at the end of last week, temperatures are climbing back into the high 20s.
Crawford Luke, Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says the trend will continue.
