Broncos hope home ice can turn the tide in their series with Flin Flon Bombers
The Flin Flon Bombers hold a 2-0 lead over the Humboldt Broncos following the opening weekend of their first round series.
On the powerplay, Flin Flon has gone 4/15 while Humboldt has been unable to convert on their five attempts with the extra man advantage.
Following Saturday’s 5-2 loss in game two, Associate Coach Carter Hansen said the special teams is a main reason for the Bombers to be up by two games.
Music is in the air as Humboldt and District Music Festival begins
The Humboldt and District Music Festival got underway on Monday.
Piano performances will take place between Monday, March 24-Wednesday, March 26 at Westminster United Church.
Vocal, Musical Theatre, and Speech Art performances are on Thursday, March 27 at Westminster United Church.
Bands and Strings performances will take place at St. Augustine School on Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1.

The U13 ‘A’ Humboldt Broncos are one victory away from claiming the ‘B’ Provincial championship.
On Saturday, Humboldt opened their series with the Moosomin Rangers with a 5-3 home ice win.
Michael Corcoran had four points (2G-2A), Ben Hinz had two goals, Bennett Trann chipped in with a goal and Levi Coggar added two assists.
Foam Lake Flyers win provincial title in overtime thriller
The Foam Lake Flyers captured the ‘C’ Provincial championship in Wilkie on Saturday.
It marked the first time the Flyers claimed a Provincial championship.
It required overtime, but the Flyers defeated the Outlaws 7-6, to win the best of three series 2-0.
Brett Peppler scored the overtime winner for Foam Lake.
U13 A Humboldt Broncos host game one of provincial finals on Saturday
The U13 ‘A’ Humboldt Broncos have one more series to go in their quest to become ‘B’ Provincial champions.
On Saturday, the U13 ‘A’ Humboldt Broncos will host the Moosomin Rangers in game one of the provincial finals. There will be a guaranteed 50/50 jackpot of $2000 thanks to Discovery Ford. Admission is free for all spectators.
Senior Hockey playoff update
The Long Lake Hockey League championship finals will be idle this week. The Foam Lake Flyers are chasing provincial glory, as they battle the Wilkie Outlaws in the Senior ‘C’ Provincial finals. Foam Lake leads the best of three series 1-0, after a 7-6 win on home ice last weekend. Game two is on Saturday in Wilkie at 7:30. If the Outlaws win tomorrow night, then game three is Sunday at 3:30.
Broncos ready to embrace underdog in their playoff series against Flin Flon
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) playoffs begin tonight with all four series getting underway, including the Humboldt Broncos meeting the Flin Flon Bombers.
During the regular season, the Broncos and Bombers met on four occasions, but each team hosted their opponent in back-to-back games in the season.

Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF) President Samantha Becotte said in a news release that the budget is a step in the direction towards investment in education.
SJHL announces regular season award winners
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) announced the winners of the regular season awards on Wednesday.
The big winner was Flin Flon Bombers Goalie Matthew Kieper who was named the SJHL Most Valuable Player and the Goalie of the Year.
Kieper ended the season with a 23-2-1-1 record with a 1.80 GAA and a .935 SV%/.
