Broncos G Brady Holtvogt named SJHL Rookie of the Week

Humboldt’s Brady Holtvogt made his lone start last week count as he was named the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) IKS Media Rookie of the Week. 

Holtvogt received the start last Wednesday (Feb.5) against the Estevan Bruins. In the Broncos 4-1 victory, the local product had a near perfect night, making 28 saves. He was 5:48 away from his second shutout of the season.  

*Weekend Update* History of the Humboldt Broncos will be on display at the Alumni Game

Next weekend the Humboldt Broncos will celebrate the past, present and future. 

It will begin with a look at the rich tradition of the history of the hockey club, as the first Humboldt Broncos Alumni Game kicks off the festivities at the Elgar Petersen Arena on Saturday, February 15 at 1:30. 

President Amanda Schlachter says the preparations for the alumni game has been in the works for quite some time. 

Watrous Kinettes helping out provincially and locally

With Telemiracle 49 less than a month away, Kinsmen and Kinettes in the province are busy with their final fundraising pushes. 

That includes the Watrous Kinettes, who are generating funds with a series of events.  

Mikela McGrath from the Watrous Kinettes says they’re holding an online auction on Facebook that begins on Thursday morning and will run until Saturday. Numerous local businesses and artists have contributed items for the auction. 

Winter strikes again: Snow beginning on Tuesday night with blowing snow expected Wednesday night

2025 is just barely over a month old and Saskatchewan has seen already seen a year's worth of blowing snow. 

But it appears the trend will continue. Beginning on Tuesday night, a snowfall is expected to begin with the Humboldt area expecting between 2-4 cm.  

The snowfall will continue Wednesday, with an additional 5-10 cm expected before tapering off later in the evening.  

Broncos goalie Dazza Mitchell named Saskatchewan Player of the Month for January

The first month for goaltender Dazza Mitchell with the Humboldt Broncos has been a successful one and that was reaffirmed on Tuesday as he was named the Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Month for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the month of January.  

Mitchell was traded to the Broncos from the Weyburn Red Wings on January 3rd. Since joining the green and gold, the Regina product started in seven of the nine games Humboldt played in January. 

Reid Gardiner's international hockey journey bolstered with strong showing at Spengler Cup

Hockey is truly a global sport and one player who’s gotten to experience that firsthand is former Humboldt resident Reid Gardiner.  

After a minor hockey career in Humboldt, Gardiner moved up the ranks, first in the U18 AAA league with the Saskatoon Contacts, then in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Kelowna Rockets.  

Broncos dominate SJHL weekly awards

The SJHL weekly award winners had a Humboldt Broncos theme to them following their weekend sweep of the Battlefords North Stars.  

Humboldt won both games by a combined score of 15-5, and as expected, were recognized by the league for their efforts.  

Forward Jacob Strizzi was named the SGEU MVP of the Week. The last two games, Strizzi had 9 points (3G-6A), including a hat-trick in Friday’s 5-2 win in Battlefords.
