The Rural Municipalities (RMs) of Fish Creek and Hoodoo, along with the towns of Wakaw and Cudworth, recently met with representatives from the Ministry of Highways for an informative session about the highway construction process. The session was also attended by Batoche MLA Darlene Rowden, who was invited as a special guest.
Broncos D Liam Rodman commits to Dalhousie University
Another member of the Humboldt Broncos will be playing US PORTS next season.
Defenceman Liam Rodman has committed to the Dalhousie University Tigers for the 2025-26 season.
Dalhousie University is located in Halifax, NS and competes in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Division of U-SPORTS.
Deadline to remove ice shelters is coming up
With the end of winter in sight, the Saskatchewan government is reminding anglers to remove ice fishing shelters from provincial waterways before rising temperatures create unsafe water conditions.
Shelters must be removed by March 15 for areas south of Highway 16 while shelters have until March 31 for northern regions of the province.
2007-born forward Simon Ward commits to Broncos for 2025-26 season
The Humboldt Broncos have received another commitment for the 2025-26 season.
On Wednesday, the team announced 2007-born forward Simon Ward has committed to the Broncos.
A Trail, BC product, Ward had 44 points (10G-34A) in 34 games and 38 PMs this season with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds AAA program. H
He is listed as 6’2 and 209 lbs.
Horizon School Division Board of Education approves 2025-26 academic calendar
The Horizon School Board of Education has approved the 2025-26 school year calendar.
Approval followed consultation with staff, school community councils, the Horizon Teachers’ Association, and Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Local 4799).
Some highlights include the first day of school taking place on Tuesday, September 2.
Former Bronco Layne Matechuk takes part in ceremonial faceoff at Colorado Avalanche and Pittsburgh Penguins game
It was a dream come true for former Humboldt Bronco Lane Matechuk on Tuesday night.
Prior to the start of the Colorado Avalanche and Pittsburgh Penguins game in Denver, Matechuk dropped the puck for the ceremonial faceoff.
On his way to centre ice, Matechuk received a warm reception from the crowd at the Ball Arena as they played a video package on the big screen.
Sydney Martin’s impressive stats fuel the Outlook Main Ice Hawks rise to first place in the SJFHL
A couple of years ago, goaltender Sydney Martin was home in Watson without a place to play hockey.
Fast forward a couple of years later, Martin is now one of the top goalies in the Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League (SJFHL) in her second season with the Outlook Mainline Ice Hawks.
Minor hockey provincial playoffs update
The Lanigan Pirates were eliminated from the U18 ‘B’ Provincials with an overtime loss to Carlyle on Saturday after the teams split the two games in the series.
In the U18 ‘C’ Provincials, the Watrous Hawks advanced after they swept the Naicam Vikings in a pair of games, 5-1 on Friday in Watrous and 7-4 in Naicam on Saturday. Watrous will now face the Aberdeen Flames in the North final.
AA Hockey playoffs set to begin on Wednesday
The regular season for AA hockey teams in the province came to an end with the playoffs set to begin this week.
Playoff series consist of a best of three series. Reseeding will occur after each round.
Telemiracle 49 raises over $5.7 million
Another successful edition of Telemiracle is in the books.
The 49th edition wrapped up on Sunday, as Saskatchewan’s biggest telethon was able to raise $5,709,306. Including this year’s total, Telemiracle has now fundraised over $170 million since 1977.
