Sweets, treats, and support for youth mental health

The Center in Swift Current was at maximum capacity on Wednesday night for their Desserts 4 Hope Fundraiser. 

Nathan Wiebe, executive director of the Swift Current Community Youth Initiative, said that the event exceeded his expectations. 

“It was incredible,” he stated. “Just really humbled by the turnout and to have a sold-out event, we always hope for that. For us, we do these things with no expectations, but we work our hardest.” 

Hazlet receives digital facelift

The Village of Hazlet has a new, big-city look thanks to the launch of its brand-new website. 

After being in the works for the past year and a half, the site was created to help promote the village and all it has to offer, explained Community and Economic Development Officer for the Village of Hazlet, Linsday Alliban. 

The Center amplifies efforts to foster youth mental health with new expansion

The Center, which has been a staple in Swift Current for numerous years, will soon be increasing in square footage to further support youth mental health in the community. 

The purchase of the adjacent building, to the south of the current location, will provide a space for individuals to receive safe, effective, and free counselling explained Nathan Wiebe, executive director of the Swift Current Community Youth Initiative. 

Yellow alert issued for Saskatchewan

Canada Post has issued a yellow delivery service alert for the province of Saskatchewan as a direct result of the poor air quality.

Deliveries across the province could be affected today as forest fire smoke has caused poor air quality.

A yellow delivery service alert means that Canada Post will do their best to deliver mail, however, it may be delayed or interrupted.

Full delivery and postal services will resume once conditions improve and it is safe to do so.

Forest fire smoke enters west-central Saskatchewan

Local residents may be noticing more smoke in the air as a cool front makes its way down from the northwest. 

According to Meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada, Terri Lang, due to all the fires currently taking place in Alberta and northern Saskatchewan, a switch in the direction of the wind yesterday will affect air quality in the area.

Southwest residents may be noticing more smoke in the air as a cool front makes its way down from the northwest.

Subject of Ontario Amber Alert located

The 8-year-old child and the 28-year-old accused male of the Amber Alert issued in Ontario earlier today have both been located.

The child is safe and the male remains in police custody.

Christopher Daniel Poulin was located after an extensive search by members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Containment Team and Emergency Task Unit.

The 28-year-old was apprehended in a rural area of Thunder Bay's north side at approximately 8:15 p.m.
