Special Air Quality Statement now in effect

A special Air Quality Statement has been issued for Swift Current, Herbert, Cabri, Kyle, and Lucky Lake.

Smoke is causing or is expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.

Forest fire smoke from wildfires in the north will be concentrated by a cold front moving southwards through southern Saskatchewan.

As this front progresses southwards tonight and into tomorrow, it will drag a band of thicker smoke through most regions of central and southern Saskatchewan.

UPDATE: Child found safely following Ontario Amber Alert

Saskatchewan RCMP provided an update at 8:05 PM:

Thunder Bay Police Service has advised that the 8-year-old child and the 28-year-old male subject of the Amber Alert issued in Ontario earlier today have both been located. The child is safe and the male remains in police custody.

The child, Emersen Poulin, is described as being approximately 4 feet tall and weighing 70 pounds. He has a thin build with brown eyes and brown hair.

The 8-year-old was last seen wearing black and red shoes with velcro straps.

Provincial fire ban in effect for northern Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has issued a provincial fire ban for Crown lands, provincial parks, and the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District, effective immediately, as a result of the dry, hot conditions and extreme fire risk that is currently covering the majority of northern Saskatchewan.

This ban includes controlled burns, fireworks, and any open fires.

In a press release, SPSA President and Fire Commissioner Marlo Pritchard said the ban is essential for the protection of residents.

Victorious weekend for Swift Current gymnasts

The Swift Current Gelico Gymnastics Club packed their bags once again over the weekend to attend the Provincial Championships in Saskatoon. 

The young athletes brought their best to the three-day competition, resulting in some large wins. 

Xcel Platinum gymnast Ashlynn Meyer tumbled her way to first place with 36.632 in the all-around, earning her the title of Provincial Champion.

Swift Current Tradeshow garners large crowd

The rainy weather on Saturday didn’t stop residents in Swift Current from venturing out to the Stockade to enjoy The Ladybug Tradeshow. 

The tradeshow, which has been a staple in the community for ten years, offered a wide variety of vendors for the bustling crowd, explained Jennifer Collinson, co-organizer of the event. 

“Lots of shoppers were walking out with bags in hand,” she stated. “We had over 100 vendors there, a good variety, a little bit of something for everyone and the vendors, they always have a great day, and they always tell us they can't wait to return.”

Alora Keewatin has been located safe. The RCMP thanks for public for their assistance

Swift Current Municipal RCMP are asking for assistance from the public in locating 15-year-old Alora Keewatin.

The young girl, from Swift Current, was last seen on May 3, entering a local convenience store at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Since she was reported missing on May 4, Swift Current RCMP have been working carefully to locate Alora.
