Steinbach's population is about to grow temporarily, as a local non-profit prepares to host an international conference.

Isi Masi, with Island Breeze, says at least 60 visitors from Australia, New England, South Africa, Hawaii, Philippines, United States, Fiji, and Samoa will be arriving in the city for the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) event.

"We're excited about that. We also have other friends... from Nunavut, from BC, from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario that are also planning to come," he says, noting some have been impacted by or a part of the YWAM ministry.

The Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS) says the province remains at a moderate to high wildfire danger level, with human activity, including arson, playing a major role in fuelling current fire conditions.

Officials say deliberately set fires are forcing crews to redirect resources that would otherwise be used to manage natural wildfire outbreaks, many of which are burning close to communities.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to convene the Incident Response Group in Ottawa today to discuss the ongoing wildfire situation across the country.

Carney also convened the group of ministers and senior officials a little over a month ago in response to an earlier wave of wildfires, which peaked in May and June, then receded, and have now flared up again.

More than 6,000 people are currently out of their homes in Manitoba, and the communities of Lynn Lake and Snow Lake ordered residents to flee for the second time in just weeks.

The Conservatives want Prime Minister Mark Carney to sell all the assets in his blind trust to avoid any possible conflicts of interest.

Carney set up the blind trust after he was sworn in as prime minister in March and the details of how it works were made public on Friday.

They show that the prime minister has set up screens to avoid potential conflicts related to his previous interests in Brookfield Asset Management, Brookfield Corporation and Stripe Inc.

But Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre believes that's not enough.

It's as if the Lord has our name on specific trials. They are specifically designed for us, arranged with our weaknesses and our immaturity in mind. He bears down and doesn't let up.

And we groan and we hurt and we weep and we pray and we grow and we learn. Through it all we learn to depend upon His Word...

The common response to trials is resistance, if not outright resentment.

John MacArthur, a prominent evangelical pastor, broadcaster and author whose teachings reached millions around the world, has died at age 86.

His ministry, Grace to You, shared the news Monday evening in a Facebook post: “Our hearts are heavy, yet rejoicing, as we share the news that our beloved pastor and teacher John MacArthur has entered into the presence of the Saviour. This evening, his faith became sight. He faithfully endured until his race was run.”

Over 2,600 people are without power in Southdale/Saint Boniface due to a hydro outage.

Manitoba Hydro posted on X saying, "Southdale/Saint Boniface: we've got crews en route to an outage affecting about 2,620 customers in the area."

There is no word on what caused the outage.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing 54-year-old, Allan Childs.

Childs was recently reported missing, having last been seen in November 2023 in the St. Boniface area of Winnipeg.

Childs is described as 5’7” in height, thin build, with short blonde hair, blonde goatee and blue eyes.

The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for Childs’ well-being and is asking anyone with any information regarding their whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.
