Spotlight this week on aquatic invasive species
Aquatic Invasive Species are under the microscope this week in the province as May 9th through to the 13th is awareness week for these species in the province.
Jeri Geiger, Team Lead for the Aquatic Invasive Species Program with the Ministry of the Environment provides some details on the species.
"Aquatic Invasive Species are any non-native organism, so that can be a plant, invertebrate, or fish that are introduced to an area where they are not native. They have the ability to negatively impact our environment, economy, and infrastructure."
CMX Powersports riders represent well in Saskatoon
It was an eventful weekend this past weekend for the CMX Powersports racers who competed in Saskatoon.
Pro rider Cole Conn #448 rode well and placed 5th in the Pro MX3 and 4th in GP Pro-AM.
Rider #199 Luke Hodgins struggled at first but ended well and finished up 15th in MX2 and 14th in MX3.
#16 Jesse Gardner put the pedal to the metal and finished 13th overall in both MX2 and MX3 getting his first-ever Holeshot, leading the race for 2 laps.
Riders will enjoy a well-deserved break before next heading into action in Weyburn on May 28th.
School Safety Patrol workers recognized during month of May
The month of May is being recognized by CAA Saskatchewan as School Safety Patrol month.
Vanora Gagnier, Senior Communications Specialist with CAA Saskatchewan details the importance of the event this month.
"So we want to recognize and thank our 4000 patrollers for their valuable volunteer work and dedication in promoting safe school zones. What we do is we commend them for all their hard work during the summer, winter, and cold months going outside and helping their schoolmates cross streets."

CAA Saskatchewan recognizes and observes today as Slow Down Move Over day. This is an annual event held by CAA clubs across Canada as Christine Niemczyk, Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations for CAA Saskatchewan explains.
"It's an annual event that we hold nationally with all CAA clubs in Canada. It is a national day of safety and observance and recognition of first responders working on our highways. This includes tow truck operators, police officers, paramedics, fire department crews, construction workers, and highway patrol staff."
Canadian country star headlines Taking it to The Streets event this summer
For the fourth year in a row, the Taking it to the Streets concert presented by Bumper to Bumper and friends will be returning to Swift Current this summer.
This year's event will take place on August 20th at the Kinetic Park grandstand stage and co-event coordinator, Leanne Tuntland- Wiebe who is working along with Carol Beyer, provides details on this year's main act.
UR Days coming to Swift Current on May 17th
A traveling education expo and speaker series from the University of Regina will be heading to Swift Current on May 17th.
President of the University, Jeff Keshen provides some details on the purpose behind the tour that will be stopping in 5 cities.

Tick prevention for the summer season
Tick season is once again upon us in Saskatchewan and residents are being reminded to take precautions to decrease the risk of tick bites.
The concern with ticks in the province and the reason for tick surveillance is to look for black-legged ticks which are the species known to carry bacteria that causes Lyme disease in humans.
Dr. Julie Kryzanowski, Deputy Chief Medical Health Officer with the Ministry of Health provides some helpful preventative measures residents can take.
Virtual celebration of International Dance Day
Today we celebrate International Dance Day and as part of this celebration once again dance students from across the country have joined together to perform a choreographed combination.
Melissa Wallace, Event Coordinator for the Canadian Dance Teacher's Association (CDTA) provides details on the event.
"The combination was choreographed by teachers from Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan and it was filmed and distributed to all of our CDTA members across Canada as well as dance teachers that belong to different dance organizations."
