Icy conditions a contributing factor in Monday morning head-on collision south of Winkler
Icy road conditions are believed to be a contributing factor in a head-on collision Monday morning on Highway 32 in the RM of Stanley.
Pembina Valley RCMP responded to the two-vehicle accident in the RM of Stanley at 10:05 AM.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP says there was an infant passenger in one of the vehicles, and the last update RCMP received is that she did not suffer any injuries.
Alcohol is not a factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
Winkler City Council asks SCRL board to review policy
The Mayor for the City of Winkler says there is concern among Council members regarding the availability of children’s materials through South Central Regional Library (SCRL) they feel contain graphic sexual pictures and text. As a result, Council has asked the SCRL Board of Directors to review its policy, or create a policy, that addresses that concern.
25-year-old drug trafficking suspect arrested second time by Altona Police
Altona police have arrested a 25-year-old Altona man for a second time as a months-long drug trafficking investigation has continued.
The accused was first arrested and charged after police executed a search warrant at his apartment on December 31st. At the time, he was charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine, Trafficking Alprazolam, Possession of Psilocybin, Possession of Codeine, and Possession of Hydromorphone.
RCMP, Chief Medical Examiner investigate sudden death on PR 246
Morris RCMP and Manitoba's Chief Medical Examiner's office are investigating after a body was found near a vehicle stuck in snow in the R.M. of Montcalm.
According to Manitoba RCMP, officers were called to the scene on PR 246 near Road 13N shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday morning. There they found the body of a 78-year-old man from Winnipeg.
RCMP say the cause of death has not yet been determined but note there are indications the man may have succumbed to the elements when he wandered away from his vehicle after becoming stuck in the snow.

Municipality of Rhineland Council has approved $16.52 million in expenditures for 2023/24.
STARS called to Wednesday evening collision on Highway 14
RCMP, Winkler Fire Department and other emergency crews were called out to a collision near the corner of Highway 14 and Reinfeld Street North Wednesday evening.
STARS Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene, according to the service's Twitter account.
Highway 14, in both directions, was closed in that area for a little less than two hours Wednesday night, with Manitoba 511 indicating both lanes in were initially shut down around 8:20 p.m., then reopened reopened shortly after 10 p.m.
No further details are available at this time.
UPDATE - RCMP releases additional details regarding Monday morning collision west of Altona
*** Updated at 5:45 p.m., Tuesday, March 21 ***
Manitoba RCMP have issued an update on Monday morning’s collision between a Border Land School Division bus and a mini van.
The incident took place at the intersection of PR 201 and Highway 306 west of Altona.
According to RCMP, the minivan was travelling west on Provincial Road 201. It stopped at the stop sign, but then entered the intersection and collided with the bus, which was travelling northbound on Highway 306.
The van was hit on the side by the bus.
Nobody was physically injured.
UPDATE: Hwy 75 reopens as Blowing Snow Advisory ends
Updated Saturday, March 18th at 7:33 a.m. - Shortly after 9pm Friday evening, Highway 75 from the U.S. border to Winnipeg was reopened. It's currently reported as partly ice covered with fair visibility in blowing and drifting snow.
As of Saturday morning at 7:30am, Highway 14 was reopened from the junction of Highway 75 to Plum Coulee.
Also, all Blowing Snow Advisories ended in the Pembina and Red River Valleys Friday night. Winds are expected to be relatively light on Saturday.
Single vehicle rollover near Morden brings reminder to drive to conditions
Morden Fire and Rescue (MFR) responded to a call for help yesterday on highway three east of Morden.
MFR Deputy Fire Chief Tim Reimer explained what happened.
"Yesterday afternoon we had a single vehicle rollover on Hwy. #3, approximately 2 miles east of Morden. The cause of the accident would, of course, be the weather conditions. The weather conditions are changing so rapidly every day with the milder weather, and snow sticking to the roads, and changing to very icy roads."
Reimer had a couple reminders for drivers at this time of year.
