The Province of Manitoba has declared the week of September 25th to October 1st, 2023, as School Support Staff Recognition Week.

CUPE represents school support staff, including education assistants, custodians, cleaners, school bus drivers, library technicians, intercultural and community liaisons, tradespersons, office administrative staff, and more in 25 school divisions across Manitoba.

It all started decades ago with Mr. Peter Elias, on his yard in a small garage in Blumenfeld. A one-man woodworking shop creating kitchen cabinets for himself, and then, a few friends. And here we are today, with Elias Woodwork celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Attention to detail, quality craftmanship and a strong work ethic are the hallmarks of South Creek Custom Welding located near Plum Coulee.

"I started South Creek Custom Welding, because I’d been building stuff in my garage in my spare time, and demand for my products got pretty high, so I decided to take the plunge and go for it," explained owner Pete Giesbrecht.

His interest in welding began at an early age, with Giesbrecht's grandfather teaching him how to weld. 

For the 19th year the Legends Car Club charity airport drag races will be tearing up the tarmac at Altona airport. Happening August 19th and 20th, it's two full days of racing, and most importantly, raising funds for organizations throughout the region. Fifty per cent of the revenues generated go to three designated groups; Genesis House in Winkler, South Central Cancer Resource based in Morden and STARS Air Ambulance.

Spokesperson and organizer Alex Loewen says of the sixty cars competing each day, most will be locals from Manitoba.
