Winkler Chamber introduces new employee leading into annual luncheon on Thursday

The Winkler & District Chamber of Commerce has welcomed a new member to its team.
    
Executive Director Tanya Chateauneuf says the new hire was needed to fill the role left by the departure of Ashley Perry.

"We have had the privilege of having Ashley Perry work with us for the last 2 1/2 years. She has been such an incredible addition."

Chateauneuf said Perry took on a lot of the social media and member relations side of things for the Chamber, adding she did a fantastic job. 

Above average temperatures not so bad for Stanley municipal roads

Public Works crews for the RM of Stanley have been taking advantage of the warmer weather over the past while.

For the most part, roads in the municipality have been in very good condition so far this winter, according to CAO Terry Penner.

Penner noted the warmer weather has allowed for some additional blading of some of the more heavily used roads in January/February.  

Public Works will continue to take advantage of the warmer weather when they can, continuing additional work to maintain roads.  

Grade two students in Plum Coulee enjoy the excitement of I Love to Read Month with Friesens

Students at Plum Coulee School are diving into their favorite books and having fun getting to know new authors and genres during I Love to Read Month.

Goldenwest reporter, Pam Fedack visited the school along with Pat Villarica from Friesens Corporation in Altona last week. The book we shared was "Fishing with Grandma" written by Susan Avingaq with Maren Vsetula and illustrated by Charlene Chua and published by Inhabit Media.

The Prairie Rose School Division (PRSD) has issued its condolences following the tragic deaths of five members of the Carman community on Sunday.
    
On behalf of PRSD, Superintendent Terry Osiowy said their thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this challenging time of loss and disbelief.

Morden Multicultural Winterfest brings people together for festive day on Saturday

Morden's Multicultural Winterfest keeps evolving and growing.

The annual event took place Saturday throughout the city. 

Winterfest Committee Chair Shelly Voth says many people enjoyed the variety of themed pavilions, each featuring different music, entertainment, food, displays, and more.

Voth noted she was happy to see a lot of people this year use the bus service to travel from pavilion to pavilion.

NDP meeting with Manitobans to help prioritize spending

Our provincial NDP government is trying to get a sense of what's important to Manitobans through budget consultations around the province.

Minister of Finance, Adrien Sala says they are a listening government, and they want to ensure all Manitobans have an opportunity to provide their insights and feedback.

Sala said the more people they can hear from - from various regions of the province, the more they can ensure the budget they build, is one that really reflects the priorities of Manitobans.

UPDATE - Winkler provincial budget town hall consultation postponed

Monday, February 12th 5:30 p.m. - The Manitoba government has announced, in light of the events in the Carman area Sunday, it is postponing tonight's previously scheduled budget consultation town hall at Winkler Arts Culture.

PVLIP's Connecting Cultures & Communities, an educational "party", coming to Altona's Community Exchange

The Community Exchange in Altona will host Pembina Valley Local Immigration Partnership's (PVLIP) Connecting Cultures and Communities Celebration, for the first time, Thursday February 22nd starting at 6:30pm, bringing the community together for a special event.
    

Manitoba RCMP's ICE unit promoting Safer Internet Day, as reports of self-exploitation soar

Manitoba RCMP are reminding parents and the public about a growing concern that's been observed by their officers, and the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE).

In a release sent out to mark "Safer Internet Day " today, the Manitoba RCMP's ICE unit reported it's receiving a higher-than-average number of calls from social media apps reporting cases of self-exploitation involving children.
