It's been an exciting start to the season for one of Ste. Anne's U11 girls fast pitch teams and coach Alyssa Kibsey couldn't be happier with how the team is doing on the field and also how girls sports are growing around the province. 

"The girls are all vibing and having a great time," Kibsey says with a smile. "The commitments have been awesome and it's so great to see them developing their skills while loving the game."

The City of Steinbach will begin taking action on its first-ever active transportation plan, after council unanimously approved the long-term strategy aimed at improving conditions for walking, biking, and other forms of non-vehicle travel. 

The plan, which outlines priorities over the next 20 years, will guide future city projects ranging from new sidewalks and multi-use pathways to safer street crossings and expanded signage for shared roadways. 

We can expect summer fuel prices to remain relatively steady over the coming months, with average rates currently sitting between $1.35 and $1.37 per litre in Steinbach. 

The largest street party in the Southeast, Summer in the City, is gearing up to once again fill downtown with music, food, culture, and community spirit — but it wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers who help make it all happen.

It's that time of year when local artists take the stage at K.R. Barkman park to serenade Steinbach.

Tara Schellenberg with the Steinbach Arts Council (SAC), which organizes the free concert series, says this celebration of local talent is also a celebration of the return to outdoor entertainment.

"It's almost magical," she says, describing Concerts in the Park as an informal, laid-back get together.

Not to mention, it's a great way to taste local music flavours.

Talks between Canada Post and negotiators from its union are expected to resume over the next few days, its union said Sunday after the two parties met amid warnings of mail delivery delays tied to a national ban on overtime for postal workers.

In an afternoon statement, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers said its negotiators had "worked hard to carefully evaluate" Canada Post's latest offers and prepare responses ahead of the day's meeting with the employer and the mediators. 

Life Culture's annual Walk for Life had a large turnout this year.

While wildfires in eastern Manitoba remain out of control, officials say progress on suppression efforts has allowed limited access to resume in parts of Whiteshell Provincial Park.

As of 9 a.m. Sunday, permanent residents, cottagers, commercial operators and daytime visitors are permitted to return to the Pointe du Bois area, including Provincial Road (PR) 313. However, Manitoba Parks warns the wildfire risk remains high and conditions could change quickly.

Southern Manitoba is in for an extended stretch of warm and sunny weather, with temperatures on the rise and little chance of rain in the forecast. 

Chris Stammers, meteorologist with Environment Canada, says the region has been enjoying comfortable conditions in the low to mid 20s, but that will change as we move further into the week. 

Among the tour groups converging on Parliament Hill under umbrellas this week, new and newly re-elected members of Parliament are getting acquainted with their offices and colleagues ahead of the opening of the House of Commons this week. 

The first order of business for MPs is the selection of a new House Speaker on Monday morning, and at least six returning members are asking their colleagues to support their bid to take the chair.
