Mahaffy campaigning on electoral reform as Green Party candidate in Provencher
Blair Mahaffy has been announced as the Green Party candidate for Provencher in next month's federal election.
Mahaffy is a lifelong resident of southeastern Manitoba. Born in Winnipeg, he spent summers in the Whiteshell, raised a family in Lorette, and now lives at West Hawk Lake. As a software developer, Mahaffy works with small, independent retailers across Canada. He also does some work as a horseback riding trail guide.
Flyers survive Nighthawks surge, win in double overtime to claim 3-2 series lead
It was a game filled with incredible swings with the Winkler Flyers owning the first period, but the Niverville Nighthawks taking over the second period, before a double overtime winner by Winkler gave them a 3-2 series lead.
With the series tied, the Flyers wanted to come out and establish some dominance early.
They did just that.
Andrew Morton opening the scoring six minutes in as the 20-year-old forward picked off a pass from a Nighthawks defender, walked in and buried a shot top shelf, moving Winkler ahead 1-0. The goal was unassisted.
Total team effort keeps Pistons alive, trail series 3-2
It was a complete 60-minute effort by everyone wearing blue and white as the Steinbach Pistons survived their first game facing elimination, defeating the Portage Terriers 3-1 on Saturday night.
It was an electric atmosphere inside the Southeast Event Centre. A packed house, a live performance by "The Villains" and a wonderful moment for Special Olympics medalist athlete Will Middleton, who dropped the puck along side Mayor Earl Funk, had positive energy reverberating around the spectacular facility.
The Pistons did their part to keep the good vibes high.

Abe J. Driedger, 87, of Altona formerly of Rudnerweide, passed away Tuesday, March 25th at Boundary Trails Health Centre. He is survived by his wife Sarah (nee Friesen), their children Glenn (Marge) Driedger, and Jean (Ken) Friesen, as well as 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents, 5 sisters, and 7 brothers.
The funeral service for Abe J. Driedger will be held Wednesday, April 2nd at 11am at Altona EMMC with burial at Rudnerweide Cemetery.
