Mid-July brings games of all sorts. This weekend promises softball, pickleball, bike rides, community center games, and the Manitoba Stampede. Keep your eyes out for our Celebrate Summer jeep bouncing from event to event throughout the summer!

Dry weather is raising the fire danger level in Manitoba
A spokesperson for Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS) says fire activity is picking up again in our province, as a result of dry weather the last couple of days.
Kristin Hayward is Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for MWS. She says 118 active fires are burning in Manitoba. So far this year, there have been 313 fires, well ahead of the 20-year average of 229 by July 17th.
Prairie Basketball League provides exposure for local basketball players
Prairie Basketball League is holding its annual Battleground Exposure Camps this weekend.
Coach Denzel Green says the 3-day camp is designed to get players early exposure to universities and colleges.
“It's nice to see, you know, elite-level basketball players from outside of the city getting recognition as well. And you know, making it onto these college and university teams.”
Hanover approves spending more on gravel in '25
Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has decided to increase its gravel budget.
Reeve Jim Funk says the municipality's gravel budget for this year was $1.3 million. Council has approved an increase of approximately $200,000, bringing their overall budget to $1.5 million. He notes the extra $200,000 will be drawn from the municipality's reserves.
Funk says there are a couple of reasons for the move. First of all, he says this has been a difficult year for frost boils.
Steinbach Legion leaps to new location
A new chapter begins for the Steinbach Legion as they prepare to open their doors on Brandt Street this fall.
Accessibility for all
Bill Richards, President of the Steinbach Legion, says he is excited about this new location.
“It’s quite accessible and high visibility for us, so we’re very excited about moving. We’re happy about being there,” says Richards.
Manitoba expands electronic monitoring program
The Manitoba government is expanding its electronic monitoring program, which tracks offenders released on bail. Justice Minister Matt Wiebe announced on Thursday an additional investment of $1.2 million.
Kickers take over top spot in division as strong home play continues
The Hanover Kickers remain unbeaten at home, extending their winning streak to 6 games and with the win, they also slide into first place in the division with an incredible goals for of 32 goals and only 9 goals against, with the next closet team at 24 goals for.
Yesterday's game was a tight affair with United Punjab opening the scoring at the 3rd minute mark of the game.
Despite the score, Hanover held the majority share of possession throughout the half, but struggled to connect meaningful plays.

John Klassen, 63, of Winkler passed away Wednesday, July 9th at Boundary Trails Health Centre. He is survived by 3 daughters, 1 son, 1 granddaughter, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, his stepmother, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and 1 brother in infancy.
The celebration of life for John Klassen will be held Saturday, July 26th at 2pm at Bethel Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Hochfeld with private family burial prior to the service at Gnadenthal Cemetery.
Goldeyes drop another close one in Sioux Falls
The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-35) suffered their 15th one-run loss of the season Wednesday evening, falling 3-2 to the Sioux Falls Canaries (35-25) at Sioux Falls Stadium. It was Winnipeg’s sixth consecutive defeat.

Sioux Falls took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Trevor Achenbach launched a two-run homer to left field, scoring Jordan Barth to make it 2-0.
Manitoba cabinet minister did not break conflict law, ethics report says
Manitoba's ethics commissioner has ruled Mike Moroz, the minister of innovation and new technology, did not break the province's conflict of interest law.
The Opposition Progressive Conservatives had accused Moroz of being in a conflict by answering questions about a 9-1-1 service outage while owning shares in Telus.
The Tories also accused Moroz of using inside information that criticized the phone company for the outage and selling company stock.
