Katharina Dyck nee Funk, 96, of Niverville passed away Thursday, July 3rd at Heritage Personal Care Home. She is survived by 2 daughters, 4 sons, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Isaac, 1 sister and 5 brothers.
A memorial service for Katharina Dyck nee Funk will be held Wednesday, July 23rd at 3pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with ash interment at a later date.
Donations may be made to Niverville Foundation for the Handivan.
Catie St. Germain joins Country Thunder lineup in last-minute surprise
Country music fans at Country Thunder in Winnipeg are in for a local surprise — Niverville singer-songwriter Catie St. Germain is joining the weekend lineup after a whirlwind 48 hours that even she still can’t believe.
St. Germain will hit the stage alongside long-time friends and collaborators, the country-rock group Petric, after headliner Nate Smith pulled out due to vocal issues. Petric was added to the bill to help fill the gap, and they brought St. Germain with them.
Steinbach still a seller's market with house sales similar to '24
Steinbach continues to be a seller's market when it comes to real estate.
That is according to Jeremy Davis with the Winnipeg Regional Real Estate Board. Davis says in the first six months of 2025, there were 98 single-family detached home sales, which is down five per cent from the 103 sales through the same period in 2024. By comparison, there was a six per cent increase in sales across the market region.
Steinbach locks in final loan for Southeast Event Centre
Steinbach City Council has approved the final borrowing required for the Southeast Event Centre, passing a bylaw to secure a $7.5 million loan from the Royal Bank of Canada.
Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2256 during its most recent meeting, following approval by the Manitoba Municipal Board. The loan is part of the City’s broader financing plan for the $74.3 million project, which includes contributions from other levels of government, private fundraising, and city funds.
10-year-old Colton Mateychuk dazzles at Brick Tournament in Edmonton
Playmaking sensation Colton Mateychuk was part of a spring hockey team that competed in the Brick Tournament in Edmonton, and the assist wizard says he had a great time on and off the ice.
Starting in hockey at a pretty young age, "I was four," Mateychuk says proudly about when he first got onto skates, the young star remembers it took little time for him to fall in love with the game. "I remember I just loved skating and scoring goals," he says with a big smile.
Canada to 'align' with U.S. airport screening rules as TSA drops shoes-off policy
Ottawa says it will work to align its flight security regulations with those in the U.S. after Washington dropped a rule that required passengers to remove their shoes during security screenings.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that passengers at American airports no longer need to remove their shoes because officials have found other ways to keep travellers safe.
Canada does not require passengers flying domestically or to non-U.S. destinations to take off their shoes for screening, unless a security officer decides it's necessary.
Wisconsin and Minnesota Republicans call on Canada to curb wildfire smoke
Six Republican lawmakers have sent a letter to Canada's ambassador calling for action on the wildfires sending smoke billowing across the international border into their states.
In a Tuesday letter to Ambassador to the U.S. Kirsten Hillman, representatives Tom Tiffany, Brad Finstad, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach, Glenn Grothman and Pete Stauber of Wisconsin and Minnesota said their constituents are coping with suffocating smoke from Canadian wildfires.

A group of men from Woodhaven Manor have been cruising around town together, usually in search of their next coffee stop.
“Last year, they decided to all get together and make this a big deal, and they went around town, all the scooter guys, they went for coffee,” says Alison Reimer from Woodhaven.
