We might not always think about the importance of wearing a poppy, and a Navy veteran wants us to know that it really shows support for our troops, past and present.
Scott Stroh served for 16 years, and he says it means a lot to him when he sees Canadians wearing a poppy.
“It’s a beautiful sight,” he says. “It's nice to see people embrace what the poppy means.”
Steinbach celebrates Miller Hockey this weekend
Miller Day happens this weekend in Steinbach, and it will be even more special than usual.
Colin Loewen, assistant coach for the U15 Miller team, says many special memories have been made in this building, which will soon be replaced with a new arena.
27-year career ends with closure of Eastman Recycling Services
The job hunt is underway for some employees of Eastman Recycling Services as operations wind down.
Long-time employee Michael Kehler looks back on his 27 years with fond memories.
“It was a very good career,” he says. “I had lots of friends that I made there, and wonderful bosses. One of my bosses was the one that got me the job at recycling was my Uncle Jake. He was my boss for 16 of my 27 years.”
Migration season is a busy time for Wildlife Haven
Wildlife Haven Animal Hospital is a busy place right now as the seasons change.
“With migration season right now, we're seeing a lot of car collisions, especially with Raptors,” says Zoe Nakata, executive director for the centre in Île des Chênes. “We're seeing window collisions with migratory songbirds.”
Nakata encourages people to call Wildlife Haven when they come across an injured animal.
Wildlife Haven treats many turtle patients this year
As the wildlife animal hospital in Île des Chênes prepares for winter, there is a lot of activity with releasing patients that have healed, as well as getting ready for animals that will stay for the winter.
Wildlife Haven has experienced an unusual year with several injured turtles requiring medical attention.
Meals on Wheels gets a boost at Taste of Summer Charity BBQ
The warm, summer sun made for perfect weather to enjoy a barbecue lunch and generous people came out to show support for the Meals on Wheels program which is run by the Pat Porter Active Living Centre in Steinbach.
Executive Director Audrey Harder is beyond grateful for the $1,964.30 that was raised during the 2-hour lunch.
Hanover Ag puts out call for volunteers
With the Hanover Ag. Fair just around the corner, the board is still looking for more help.
For every summer fair and festival, volunteers play a key role in the success of the event.
Carla Campbell says they have approximately 200 volunteer shifts to fill for the August 18th weekend.
