County honours Hawkes-Johnson family as 2024 Farm Family of the Year

The County of Grande Prairie proudly announces the Hawkes-Johnson as the 2024 Farm Family of the Year. This hard-working family, rooted in multi-generational farming, has demonstrated exceptional dedication, hard work, and community spirit, earning them this esteemed award in its 56th year.  

Sustaining their 250 cow operation, the Hawkes-Johnson Family recognized early on that sole reliance on their cow/calf operation wouldn't suffice. They have embraced collaboration, resilience, and a profound sense of community, embodying the essence of this prestigious recognition. 

Over 100 pharmacy care clinics set to open across the province

By the end of 2024, there will be 103 more Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy care clinics in Alberta. The expansion represents a $77-million investment by the Canadian pharmacy retailer into the province.

Premier Smith said that the expansion will help alleviate the burden on the province's healthcare system.

"This is going to be one more way in which patients are going to be able to access care so that they have another door to enter into, as we continue to build out our nurse practitioner clinics as well as our team-based approach with family practice," she said. 

County Regional Fire Service rural stations and towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Wembley recruiting rural responders  

Applications are being accepted for paid response firefighters and medical first responders to serve at fire stations in Bezanson, Hythe, La Glace, Teepee Creek, and the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley.

Greenview Fire-Rescue Services receives donation for Wildland Personal Protection Equipment

Greenview Fire-Rescue Services (GFRS) received a $15,000.00 donation from Keyera Corp. to assist with the purchase of wildland personnel protection equipment.

Through Keyera’s social investment program, Keyera Connects, they partner with organizations and support causes that build resiliency in the communities that they are a part of. To recognize Greenview Fire-Rescue Services for their dedication and commitment during the 2023 Alberta wildfires and for working to safeguard Keyera facilities and employees, this donation was made to assist with the purchase of crucial equipment.

Dawson Creek moves to Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures February 5

At the Special Meeting of Council held on January 23, 2024, Council received an update regarding the status of water levels in the Kiskatinaw River. Council directed staff to move Dawson Creek into Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures effective February 5, 2024 until further notice.
