Research trial shows mustard will respond to proper micronutrient management

A 2023 research trial looking at 'Hybrid Brown Mustard and Composite Yellow Mustard response to Soil Test Fertility Recommendations' was done across three locations in Saskatchewan last year Swift Current, Indian Head, and Redvers.

Amber Wall,  the Assistant Manager with Wheatland Conservation Area, says the ADOPT trial focused on AC Yellow 80 and AC Brown 18 and the addition of zinc and boron based on the soil test recommendations.

New faba bean research holds potential


Research out of the University of Alberta shows faba beans pack a high protein punch opening the potential for use as an alternative to meat and dairy options. 

Brasathe Jeganathan conducted the work to earn a PhD in food science and technology from the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences. 

She says the chemical-free method uses less energy, making the process more sustainable, called dry and wet fractionation, the separation methods are crucial in eventually making the bean more of a worldwide 'dietary staple'.

New Innovations a highlight during the Western Canadian Crop Production Show

Another edition of the Western Canadian Crop Production Show is in the books.

The 41st edition of the show introduced a new feature this year with the 'Innovation Awards'.

New Innovations entered into the program were judged on a variety of criteria from innovation and impact;  to quality and scope; value; marketability and environmental sustainability.

First place in the program went to Annelida Soil Solutions out of Nisku, Alberta.

Sturgeon Lake Annual General Meeting TODAY at 4:00pm

The Friends of Sturgeon Lake Society Annual General Meeting is being held today (Monday, Jan. 15) starting at 4 p.m. in the DeBolt Community Hall.

All Sturgeon lake users – those on, around or users of the lake – are invited to attend.

Annual memberships ($30 person or $50 couple) will be sold at the door.

“The Society was created to work on areas for betterment of the lake,” said organizer Dan Gorman.

Presenting at the meeting will be Alberta Lake Management Society and Mighty Peace  Watershed Association spokespeople.

Thanks to NuVista Energy Ltd., all 10 classrooms at Wembley Elementary School will receive new interactive televisions. NuVista Energy Ltd. recently contacted the school asking if there were any projects or needs they could assist with, and after hearing that classes were using outdated technology, decided to donate $12,576.45 to replace the old equipment.

Amy Joy Hess' childhood was anything but normal. She grew up in a home with eight children from four different fathers. Most of them died at some point, except for Hess' father. 

Despite all of this, Amy grew up knowing God.  

"My mom had all these problems and basically, I felt like God was the one who raised me, who took care of me, who gave me direction and picked me up when I fell down," said Hess.

Kentucky teen starts prayer wall in public school after issues with suicide

A teenage girl who has been struggling with thoughts of suicide has recently found strength in Scripture and decided to share it with the rest of her school in Kentucky. 

"Over the year my love for my Lord has saved me more and more," said Sophy Jones on Facebook a few weeks ago. Jones attends Whitley County High.

After Death crowd investors receive significant payout

A documentary created by a Winnipeg filmmaker, which became the top-grossing faith documentary of all time, is now paying back its crowd investors. 

Stephen Gray's After Death hit 2,000 theatres across Canada and the United States on Oct. 27 and came out #4 at the box office, taking in $5,060,815 and making it the #12 highest-grossing opening for a documentary.
