The City of Grande Prairie, in collaboration with the Safer Roads Alliance, is delighted to announce the winners of the "How did the chicken cross the road?" Student Road Safety Contest. This contest, aimed at educating students about the importance of road safety through creative expression, received an overwhelming number of high-quality entries from students across various age groups.

Grande North Winter Festival returns to downtown Grande Prairie January 12 to 14 at three locations; Bonnetts Energy Centre, Montrose Cultural Centre and Muskoseepi Park.

Grande North Winter Festival aims to create a unique experience focusing on ice and snow, embracing the colder season, providing residents an event to look forward to during winter and encouraging community connection.

Residents are invited to visit the downtown core to experience various ice and snow themed activities at various locations listed below.

Keep kids safe from button batteries this holiday season

With the holiday season approaching, Alberta Health Services (AHS) reminds Albertans about the dangers of button batteries, often found in toys and electronics, and the risk they pose to children if swallowed.

Button batteries are used to power many items such as games, watches, hearing aids, cameras, calculators, flashing shoes and musical cards. Because of their round shape and small size, children can mistake button batteries for food or candy.

City of Grande Prairie still investigating Eastlink Centre incident

The City of Grande Prairie is investigating an incident that occurred at the Eastlink Centre on the afternoon of Friday, December 15.

Immediately following the incident, all appropriate officials were notified.

At this time, the City does not have any information it can share concerning the individual involved.

Canada lays out plan to phase out sales of gas-powered cars, trucks by 2035

The end of the road is coming for gas-powered vehicles in Canada.

New regulations being published this week by Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault will effectively end the sale of new passenger vehicles powered only by gasoline or diesel in 2035.

Guilbeault said the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard will encourage automakers to make more battery-powered cars and trucks available in Canada.

UPDATE: County Regional Fire crews on site of a tanker rollover

FINAL UPDATE: 

Tuesday, December 19, 2023, 3:25 p.m.: The County Regional Fire hazardous materials crews have successfully completed the transfer of diesel from the overturned tankers on Highway 43 at Range Road 133. County crews have been released from the response. 

The scene has been turned over to Alberta Environment and the trucking company to ensure remediation of the spill site is complete.   

Alberta RCMP looking for information


Innisfail RCMP is asking for the public's help in solving a livestock incident from November.

A two year old horse, a Grulla Colt valued at $5000 was shot and killed overnight on November 28th.

The incident occurred near Township Road 353 and Range Road 255 in Red Deer County in between the town of Innisfail and Pine Lake.  

The investigation shows the horse was killed by a single gunshot wound to the gut.

RCMP are reaching out to the public for help identifying the subject.
