Fort St John sees sudden rash of counterfeit cash

The Fort St John RCMP wishes to advise the local community about a rash of counterfeit bills that individuals have tried to use recently.

On Monday, August, 26, 2024, the local Dairy Queen reported a man tried to purchase items with a counterfeit $100 bill. Staff seized the money and turned it over to police as part of the investigation. Currently, it is unknown if the person knew they were issuing a fraudulent bill.

Expanding affordable Indigenous housing in MD of Greenview

Alberta’s government is celebrating construction progress on the Kikinow Elders Lodge, which will provide affordable homes for aging Indigenous Elders in MD of Greenview.

Construction is well underway on the Kikinow Elders Lodge in Victor Lake, which is nestled in nature with mountain views. This one-of-a-kind 12-unit lodge will provide aging Indigenous Elders with an affordable, supportive and culturally appropriate place to call home.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate homicide in Fox Lake

On Wednesday, August 28th, 2024 at approximately 3:30 am, Fox Lake RCMP responded to a weapons complaint at the Fox Lake Nursing Station. RCMP arrived at the Nursing Station where a 19-year-old female resident of Fox Lake was being treated for injuries consistent with a stab wound. Despite life saving efforts by medical staff, the female succumbed to her injuries. The matter was deemed a homicide and RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation.

City celebrates Alberta Day with free facility access on August 31

Visitors are invited to play, skate and swim across three City facilities to celebrate Alberta Day on Saturday, August 31.

The City is offering free facility access to the Eastlink Centre, Activity & Reception Centre and hosting a public skate, including a skate with the Grande Prairie Storm, at Bonnetts Energy Centre to commemorate Alberta’s 119 anniversary.
