Poilievre urges Singh to end NDP deal with Liberals, force fall election

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has written to the leader of the New Democrats, urging him to force an election this fall.

Poilievre's letter to Jagmeet Singh says the NDP does not have a mandate from voters to keep Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in power for another year.

He's urging Singh to vote non-confidence in the government when the House of Commons resumes in September.

The NDP entered a supply and confidence deal with the Liberals in 2022, agreeing to keep the minority government in power until 2025 in exchange for movement on key priorities.

Ohio State campus hosted baptism/worship night as football team shared their faith

The Ohio State University and local churches recently hosted an event on campus that saw many people give their lives to Christ and even get baptized. 

The university football team hosted the event and many players shared their testimonies on the stage after everyone engaged in a few worship songs. The praise and worship night had roughly 1,000 people gathered together.

Fire Restriction lifted for entire County and surrounding towns

Effective at 2:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service has lifted the Fire Restriction that was put in place on July 29 for the entire County, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley. This change aligns with Alberta Wildfire’s move to lift all advisories today.  

Due to cooler temperatures and recent rainfall, the County will not have any advisories in place as the fire danger in the region is now low.   

Grande Prairie lifts fire restriction after rain and cooler temperatures

As of 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the City of Grande Prairie Fire Department has lifted the Fire Restriction, thanks to recent rainfall and cooler temperatures that have lowered the wildfire risk to a moderate level. This decision aligns with Alberta Wildfire's removal of restrictions in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Grande Prairie launches major infrastructure upgrades with storm outfall and 106 Avenue rehabilitation project

The City of Grande Prairie will commence the Storm Outfall and 106 Avenue Rehabilitation Project at Muskoseepi Park on September 3. The project aims to upgrade stormwater, sanitary, and water infrastructure, beginning with the area east of the park's spillway and moving to 106 Avenue between 102 Street and west of 103 Street. Key activities include removing and replacing storm lines, repairing sanitary and water systems, and repaving roads and sidewalks.

Grande Prairie Police partner with Lethbridge Polytechnic to launch advanced Cadet Training Program

Lethbridge Polytechnic has partnered with the Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) to enhance the training of newly hired officers through its Police Cadet Training program. Beginning September 9th, the first class of 12 recruits will undergo a 22-week program in Grande Prairie, taught by instructors from the polytechnic’s Centre for Justice and Human Services. The training will cover essential law enforcement skills, fitness, and scenario-based assessments, culminating in a certificate in Police Cadet Training.
