Rosetown RCMP respond to threats, mischief and coyote complaints

Rosetown RCMP responded to a series of calls last week, including reports of threats, mischief and wildlife encounters in town.

On Aug. 30, officers received two separate complaints of uttering threats in Rosetown. One case resulted in charges, while in the other, police determined there were insufficient grounds for an arrest but remained on scene until arrangements were made.

Police also assisted with well-being checks on Aug. 29 and Sept. 2, including one call that led to an individual being taken to the hospital.

SaskEnergy notes natural gas flare near Abbey

SaskEnergy has advised southwest residents of necessary controlled natural gas flaring taking place on Tuesday morning at a block valve site in the RM of Miry Creek.

The natural gas flaring is set to take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., roughly four kilometres west of the village of Abbey.

Residents may notice a 40-foot flame coming from the temporary flare stack attached to the infrastructure during the flaring.

The flaring is needed to complete maintenance work on the natural gas line system in the area to support the reliable delivery of natural gas.

Familiar faces lead Klippers to pre-season win in Humboldt

It was a mix of veterans and young guns in the lineup on Monday night as the Kindersley Jr. Klippers went on the road and took down the Humboldt Broncos 3-1 from Elgar Petersen Arena. 

Both sides came out firing in the first period hitting double digits in the shot column. With under five minutes to go it was Kindersley taking the early lead as Brock Evans potted a powerplay goal, assisted by Klippers defenseman Jaxon Herchak who wasted no time in his return to the Klippers lineup after spending WHL training camp with the Prince Albert Raiders. 

RCMP arrest Alberta man after stolen vehicle pursuit ends near Eatonia

A 23-year-old Alberta man is facing charges after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle and nearly colliding with an RCMP cruiser in southwestern Saskatchewan.

Leader RCMP say they received a report around 8 p.m. on Sept. 4 of a suspicious vehicle parked at a community facility in Burstall. The vehicle matched the description of one that had earlier evaded Alberta RCMP.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped off, narrowly missing the police vehicle before heading east on Highway 321.

Second annual 'Meet a Machine' was big fun

The second annual Meet a Machine hosted by Kindersley Community Connections was a blast over the weekend. There were machines of all shapes and sizes, with tons to do with the family. 

Ang Malcom and Arlene Goosen took a moment to chat with us about the event. Malcom was very happy with the turn out and was quick to say that it was a success.  

Defence begins case in Rosetown human trafficking trial

A human trafficking trial in west-central Saskatchewan has resumed after a summer recess, with the defence beginning to present its case.

The proceedings against Mohammad Masum and Sohel Haider had paused in June after the Crown wrapped up its case. Among the witnesses were Cypress Hills MLA Doug Steele and former MLA Hugh Nerlien, who both testified for the prosecution.

Ottawa drafting public registry of AI projects as tech spreads through government

The federal government says it plans to launch a public registry to keep Canadians in the loop on its growing use of artificial intelligence.

"We are seeing a lot more activity across departments and agencies," Stephen Burt, the government’s chief data officer, told The Canadian Press.
