North Battleford man charged after RCMP officer assaulted during traffic stop
A 52-year-old North Battleford man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting an RCMP officer during a traffic stop in the city.
According to Saskatchewan RCMP, members of the North Battleford Crime Reduction Team conducted a traffic stop on May 7 around 7:30 p.m. after noticing a passenger not wearing a seatbelt.
Police say the driver, identified as Leon Night, got out of the vehicle and confronted officers. He complied when directed to return to the vehicle, but officers then spotted illicit cannabis and unstamped tobacco in plain view.
Tibbles commits to Red Deer College; joining Bueckert and Kindersley native Cormier
Another outgoing Kindersley Jr. Klipper is going to be suiting up for Red Deer College of the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference) next season. The team announced on Thursday that Shayne Tibbles made his commitment to the Kings hockey program, following the commitment of his teammate Mason Bueckert to Red Deer earlier in the week.
Team Saskatchewan into semi-finals at National Aboriginal Hockey Championship
There is only two days left at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship tournament going on in Kamloops, BC. Friday marks the semi-final round for both male and female play, and Team Saskatchewan has both teams still alive.
The preliminary round games were played Monday through Thursday. The boys went 3-1-1 in the round robin to finish the third, while the girls team went 2-2-1 to also finish third.
The male semi-final will go first as Team Saskatchewan faces off against Team Manitoba. The teams met in the first game of the tournament with Manitoba taking a 5-3 win.
Kyle RCMP investigating fuel theft, truck thefts and fraud over past week
Kyle RCMP responded to a series of calls between May 2 and May 8, including thefts, fraud, and wellbeing checks in Kyle and nearby communities.
The week’s activity began on May 5 with a report of newspaper theft in Kyle at 8:59 a.m. A short time later, at 9:28 a.m., officers conducted a wellbeing check in the community.
On May 6, RCMP received a complaint of harassing communications in Rosetown. Officers determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed with charges.

The Kindersley Legion hosted a ceremony on May 8 at the cenotaph in Baker’s Park to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
Despite strong winds, community members and students gathered for the event, which began at 10:45 a.m.
The commemoration began at the Kindersley Legion, where members of the RCMP, EMS, fire department, Legion, and local students, along with Mayor Ken Francis, marched down Main Street to Baker’s Park.

Bunge Viterra merger remains stalled
It appears the recent trade tensions between the U.S. and China are delaying the proposed merger between Bunge and Viterra.
China has not yet approved the $34 billion merger between the two ag giants.
The deal has received antitrust clearance from the European Union and Canada, but the transaction remains stalled in China
due to what many people say is a result of trade tensions between the United States and China.
The merger was originally announced in 2023.
Avian Influenza update
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has declared a primary control zone for avian influenza in Manitoba.
The CFIA says it has declared the Rural Municipality of Boissevain-Morton a primary control zone.
The status means that specific measures are being implemented to prevent the spread of the disease through movement restrictions and permits.
To date, 17 premises in Canada have been identified as being infected with AI, including two in Manitoba, three in Saskatchewan and one in Manitoba.
