As vexing as the current trade environment might be, Canada has to recognize there were issues long before U.S. president Donald Trump and his on-again, off-again tariffs came along, said panelists at a policy summit last month.
“We’re not really in a different place,” said Cal Bricker, chief executive officer of Spirits Canada.
Rusty Cage Fun Run raises $3,000 in 16th annual ride
The Rust Cage Fun Run had a great turnout on Saturday.
Starting with a breakfast at the Eagles in Swift Current, riders gathered together to commemorate their friends who had gone ahead of them into the great beyond. The Eagles served breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with over 50 meals sold.
At 10:30, kickstands went up and Steve Hamm, organizer for the last eight years of the event, directed 70 bikes on their parade through Swift Current and down Highway 4.
Sealing on Highway 37 from Cabri to Gull Lake
Highway 37 from Cabri to Gull Lake is experiencing another round of road work.
Crews are seal coting the stretch of pavement from Highway 32 to Highway 332.
Reduced speeds are being enforced, and people are asked to exercise caution when in the area.
Similar work is taking place on Highway 332 from Highway 37 to the Trans-Canada Highway, just north of Gull Lake. Similar restrictions are in place.

Highway 4 adjacent road work causing delays
Road crews are present south of Swift Current.
This first batch of work begins at Highway 363, stretching to Highway 19. This work has flag persons in attendance, with drivers asked to slow down while passing by.
The second road work operation is on Highway 343 near Blumenhof. This work affects both lanes, and takes place between Blumenhof and Simmie. A pilot vehicle is guiding traffic around the work.
Both these projects are expected to be finished by the end of the day at 5 p.m.
Highway 37 work sees pilot vehicle guiding traffic
Highway 37 north of Shaunavon has work taking place, affecting both lanes.
Located near the Highway 13 intersection, this work has personnel present and reduced speeds in effect. Flag persons are operating traffic, with a pilot vehicle leading motorists around the work.
This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day.
Trans-Canada road work limiting lanes near Maple Creek
Travellers on the Trans-Canada Highway can expect delays near Maple Creek.
Microsurfacing work has traffic near the Highway 21 intersection limited to a single lane.
Workers are present, with reduced speeds being enforced.
This work is expected to be finished by August 29.
Cowboys and Chrome knocks it out of the park in first go around
While things started off cloudy, the sun eventually shone warm and bright on the first-ever Cowboys and Chrome, presented by ReMax, event in Swift Current.
The Swift Current Ag n' Ex planned the event as a fundraiser, hoping to draw in some support so they can fund their regular season of shows like Frontier Days. Not only did Swift Current show up, but they showed up in their best rides.

Soccer and tennis together for kids
Summer is still here, and both the Swift Current Soccer Association and the Swift Current Tennis Association have taken advantage of this with a free youth camp.
The camp ran through last week. Head Coach of the Swift Current Tennis Association, Kimberly Hartwig, says the camp was a great way for children of all ages and demographics to learn new sports.
Cypress House invites residents and families to open house
The folks at Cypress House opened their doors to residents of Swift Current last Friday
The event featured a barbecue lunch, live music, door prizes, and a silent auction. Consultant Bill Horbach says folks were very excited to come out, and reactions were positive.
"They come here and they say, wait, wait a minute, this building isn't like a care home," he said. "This is an actual home for people."
Many sponsors came out in support of the event, including SaskTel, Supplement King Swift Current, and the Swift Current SPCA.
