Carney maintains positive approval rating despite summer cooldown: poll
Prime Minister Mark Carney's popularity may be cooling off in the summer but remains broadly positive, a new poll from Abacus Data suggests.
The Carney-led Liberal government's approval rating dipped to 50 per cent in the firm's latest polling, down two percentage points compared to mid-July and the lowest level since March.
With 48 per cent viewing Carney favourably and 19 per cent disapproving, the prime minister maintains a positive net approval. That figure is a couple percentage points lower than in Abacus's previous poll.

It's been approximately 45 years since the members of the Crossborders Community Project near the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border and the community of Kola, MB have been raising funds for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
Hundreds of thousands of bushels have been harvested through the Crossborders Grow Projects over the decades, dating back to the early 1980's when the Foodgrains Bank officially began, thanks to Don Neufeld, and his father, Art, and the call on their lives to support the Foodgrains in the Kola area.

CPR instructor urges more training after beach rescue
Nearly three weeks ago, a carefree summer day at Delta Beach quickly turned into a life-or-death situation, but thanks to fast-acting bystanders who knew Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a young boy's life was saved. For long-time emergency responder and CPR instructor Dennis Morgan, the incident is a textbook example of why life-saving skills should be taught to everyone.
“Knowing CPR can make the difference between life and death,” says Morgan, a certified Heart & Stroke instructor with more than 20 years of teaching experience.
RCMP union pushes for change to help force attract talent from U.S., other countries
The union representing front-line RCMP members wants the force to ease requirements for foreign applicants to help attract experienced police officers from agencies like the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and counterparts in the United Kingdom and Australia.
The RCMP currently requires that applicants be Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status in Canada. Applicants with permanent resident status must have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for three of the last five years.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of western Manitoba, including the Brandon, Souris, Melita, Boissevain, Killarney, Pilot Mound, Manitou and Carman areas because conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds today.

Herman Friesen, 91, of Winnipeg passed away Thursday, July 31st at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by 1 daughter, 1 son, and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, and 4 brothers.
The funeral service for Herman Friesen will be held Tuesday, August 12th at 11am at Braeside Evangelical Mennonite Church, 1011 Munroe Avenue, with burial at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery.
Viewing will be at the church prior to the service.
