RDPS advocates for Provincial coverage of teacher COVID-19 vaccinations
The Red Deer Public Schools (RDPS) Board of Trustees has approved a motion to advocate for provincial coverage of COVID-19 vaccinations for teachers and school staff.
At a meeting on September 10, Board member Angela Sommers highlighted the importance of protecting school staff, who play a critical role in maintaining the health, safety, and continuity of learning for students across Alberta.
With COVID-19 continuing to circulate, vaccinations remain a key tool in safeguarding both staff and students.
17-year-old Grande Cache resident faces charges for aggravated assault
On Sept. 6, 2025, around 3:10 a.m., Grande Cache RCMP responded to reports of a man who had just been assaulted by several people, possibly up to 4, near Grande Cache Community High Schol. EMS was on scene and tended to the victim while he spoke to police, stating they had stolen from him and identifying one suspect. The victim was then transported by EMS to the hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries. One suspect was later located and arrested, though RCMP are still trying to identify the other suspects.
RCMP investigate possible link between SUV gunshot and Highway 39 shooting
Weyburn RCMP continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a woman on Highway 39 on Sept. 12, after a motorist reported gunshot damage to their SUV. Police are looking into whether the two incidents are connected.
The driver, who may have been following a Ford Explorer at the time, reported hearing two “pop” sounds similar to rocks hitting a windshield, although no damage was visible at the time. The following day, Sept. 13, the motorist noticed a flat tire.

Country Thunder is closing out its 2025 festival season with a boost to several local charities across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The popular music festival series says it contributed $18,000 this year to community organizations, while also supporting dozens of local groups through partnerships, fundraising and volunteer opportunities.
SBC students band together to fight flooding
For the second year in a row, The Steinbach Bible College (SBC) men’s dormitory has flooded.

“We were quite concerned,” says Dave Reimer, president of SBC.
The heavy rainfall Thursday night left Steinbach and area with roughly 100 millimeters of rain.
“We had this very similar storm (last year) with six inches of rain hitting us in one day.”
Delays on Highway 363 near Hodgeville
Travellers on Highway 363 will want to know about delays in place.
Due to ongoing road work, speeds are being reduced to 60 kilometres per hour. The work itself stretches from Kelstern to Hodgeville.

Federal transportation investigators to visit site of fatal Manitoba plane crash
Investigators are heading to the site of a plane crash that killed four people in remote northeastern Manitoba over the weekend.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says investigators should arrive in St. Theresa Point Anisininew Nation by the end of the week to probe the accident that saw a bush plane crash approximately 40 kilometres south of the community while on its way to Makepeace Lake.
