Strathmore Library delivers books to dozens through Visiting Library program

The Strathmore Municipal Library is gearing up for the winter through its Visiting Library program.

The initiative provides library materials for people unable to visit the library due to illness or disability by delivering materials straight to their homes. People can borrow a variety of items, from books and magazines to audiobooks and DVDs.

Chrystia Freeland says carbon rebate for small businesses will be tax-free

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says the Canada carbon rebate for small businesses will be tax-free.

In a statement posted to X late Tuesday, Freeland clarified the parameters of the program after an advocacy group for small business raised concerns that the rebate would be a taxable benefit.

Dan Kelly, president and CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, posted on X soon after that post that he had received a call from Freeland, who offered "assurance" that the rebate would be tax-free.

Trump's appointees have criticized Trudeau, warned of border issues with Canada

Donald Trump's second administration is filling up with some of his most loyal supporters and many of the people landing top jobs have been critical of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and security at Canada's border.

One expert says there are not many Canadian allies, so far, in the president-elect's court.

"I don't see a whole lot of friends of Canada in there," said Fen Hampson, a professor of international affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa and co-chair of the Expert Group on Canada-U.S. Relations.

Wheatland County firefighters take part in live fire training

Earlier this month, Wheatland County firefighters completed their live fire training.

The members gathered at the Brooks burn tower for the program, which included search and rescue drills, forcible entry training, live vehicle fire scenarios, and ladder operations.

"This event was especially meaningful as it marked the final training assessments for new recruits, who are now fully certified and ready to serve our community after months of hard work and preparation," wrote the county in a Facebook post.

Celtic rock group gears up to perform at Strathmore Legion

Fraid Knot, a Celtic rock band based out of Calgary, will be performing at the Royal Canadian Legion in Strathmore on Saturday (Nov. 16).

The show, which is set to begin at 8 p.m., has already sold out, according to lead singer and founding member Byron Eddy.

"We noticed there are a lot of east coasters and people from Europe who were missing a part of home," said Eddy. "Growing up on the east coast, it was natural for me."

How much funding is 4-H Alberta receiving?

A total of $731,162 in funding has been announced by the Alberta and Canadian governments to help support 4-H Alberta clubs.

Over five years the money will be given to three 4-H Alberta programs through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

"The Intro to 4-H program, the Agriculture Safety and Mental Health Workshop, and the Senior Spring Symposium will benefit from the funding," wrote the province in a news release.
