Agra Risk Wheatland Kings open spring camp registration as playoff race heats up
The Agra Risk Wheatland Kings are hosting spring camp registration early this year.
Last year there were around 80 players that hit the ice during last year's event.
"Really looking for any 2004-2009 born players who think they might want to try to play for us," says Cody Holdaway, general manager of the Kings.
Conditioning will begin on Saturday, May 3 from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
Scrimmaging will start on Sunday, May 4 from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Peavey Mart to close all Canadian stores including Strathmore location
Peavey Marts across Canada are closing their doors including the store in Strathmore.
According to the organization, the closures are part of a country-wide shutdown with around two dozen facilities to be shut down by the end of February.
StrathmoreNow confirmed the location in town will be closing down, but staff did not provide any other details.
There isn't a specific timeline for when all the stores will close.
The organization cited declining profits along with changing market conditions as the reasons for the closures.

Forty ringette teams from across Alberta came to Strathmore for the annual Laurie Morton Ruppe Memorial Tournament over the weekend.
The event took place between Friday (Jan. 24) and Sunday, with teams ranging in age from four to 19 years old.
"It went really well. It seemed to go smoothly, and things stayed on schedule. The players all really seemed to be enjoying themselves," said event organizer Pamela Betke. "We got a fair number of compliments on how well it went and how much fun the girls had."
Strathmore Legion awards students for Remembrance Day art
Several local students were awarded for their Remembrance Day art at the Strathmore Legion over the weekend.
Students across Strathmore were asked to create essays, art, and poems based around Remembrance Day in an annual contest, leading up to a presentation on Saturday (Jan. 25).
The event began with a speech from Legion president Donovan Arnaud.

A well-known chain of hardware and agriculture supply stores is set to close nearly two dozen locations across Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Peavey Mart announced last week the closure of 22 stores as part of "a strategic plan to address ongoing challenges in the retail sector and strengthen its business for the future." The closures will take place by the end of April 2025.
