When can parents sign up their kids for kindergarten at Rocky View Schools?
Rocky View Schools (RVS) is opening up registration for kindergarten students for the 2025/26 school year on Monday (Feb. 3).
“We look forward to welcoming the next cohort of new learners to our schools,” said Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach. “The beginning of kindergarten is an exciting time for families, as well as our staff, as these students embark on the first steps of their learning journey. Every year, we look forward to meeting these new students and building a foundation with them that will help them achieve their very best in the years to come.”
Chestermere Food Bank received 85,000 pounds of food in 2024
The Chestermere Food Bank is reflecting on 2024 and reviewing the amount of food and money that was raised for families in need.
According to a social media post by the food bank, the community and corporate partners donated a total of 85,000 pounds of food throughout the year.
"That's about 20,000 pounds more than in previous years," said executive director Mardi Oel. "We are so happy, with 14,000 of those pounds coming from the Save On Foods in Langdon."

It's going to be a busy weekend of ringette for Strathmore and Rockyford.
The Laurie Morton Ruppe Memorial Tournament will be hosted at the Strathmore Family Centre Arena and the Rockyford Arena from Jan. 24-26.
Staff with StrathmoreNow and 104.5 More Country will be at the Family Centre throughout the weekend with a table set up at the north end of the concession area.
Residents can chat with us on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Chestermere woman strikes gold with winning ticket
A Chestermere woman has won $100,000.
Kathleen Speck took home the money from the December 3 Western Max draw and said she still can't believe she won.
According to a news release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, Speck says she has her husband to thank for buying the ticket.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” she said. “I’m in complete shock. I don’t have any definite plans yet, but it’s great.”
The winning ticket was bought at the Centex at 124 East Chestermere Drive.

Joly off to Washington to talk tariffs with Rubio as Trump floats 5% target for NATO
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly will press Canada's case against damaging tariffs with the new U.S. secretary of state in Washington next week, after Trump repeated a demand Thursday for allies to vastly increase their military spending.
Trump is threatening to impose 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs on imports from Canada starting on Feb. 1. Joly said things are still in flux because Trump hasn't confirmed his new commerce secretary.
"There will be lots of rhetoric," Joly told reporters on Parliament Hill on Thursday.

How can a new web-based property search map help Strathmore residents?
Staff with the Town of Strathmore are hoping that a new web-based property search map can help out residents.
Seth Whitney, GIS Specialist with the Town of Strathmore presented to Town Council on Wednesday (Jan. 22) about the new initiative.
"This tool will provide our residents, businesses, and other stakeholders with easy access to property information, reducing the need for direct inquiries and empowering a self-service for our community."
Whitney says the app can search properties by using things like address, tax roll number, or zooming into the map.
Chestermere one step closer to starting new high school construction
The City of Chestermere recently released further details regarding a new high school site in Dawson's Landing.
According to the city, capital budget funding now meets the requirements for level one site readiness for the installation of roadways and utilities.
"The subdivision application has been submitted to the Land Titles Office. This is the final step of having the title transferred to the city," mentioned a news release.
