The Liberals' fiscal update was intended to encourage business investment and beef up border security ahead of Donald Trump's return to the White House next month.

But the sudden resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland hours before the document was tabled instead ignited even more political and economic uncertainty.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government is reeling after suddenly losing its top cabinet minister, Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, reigniting calls for Trudeau to step down and call an election.

It's been a busy year for everyone, including Strathmore Mayor Pat Fule.

Fule explained that there are multiple projects in the works for the town.

"The town has had a lot of things going on and I think it's more of an ongoing thing that I'm proud of, I'm excited about one of our strategic initiatives is affordable living and we have 180 residential permits that have been issued, and we've had some major projects through the planning and development phase."

There will be a few lane closures for drivers to watch out for this week as crews connect to underground utilities.

According to the Town of Strathmore, work will be done on Thomas Drive and Brentwood Drive from December 18-20.

Country musician Drew Gregory and his team have been busy of late and now he can add several nominations for the Country Music Alberta Awards to his resume.

Gregory has been nominated for the Horizon Male Artist of the Year, Video of the Year for 'This Side of the Dirt' with Codi McIvor, Fan's Choice, Guitar Player and Specialty Instrument with Mitch Jay, Songwriter of the Year for 'This Side of the Dirt' with Wade Kirby, and Industry Person of the Year with Angie Morris.

Heavy fog entered Strathmore overnight.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a fog advisory for the area.

The fog is causing reduced visibility in the area, which can affect drivers on the roads.

An update will be provided once the fog has cleared up.

Several children were sent to hospital over the weekend due to a carbon monoxide leak at Rockyford Arena.

The Rockyford Fire Department responded to the leak at around 7 p.m. on Saturday (Dec.14). According to the village, the 911 call was made by a hockey team using the ice that day.

Housing Minister Sean Fraser says he will not be running in the next federal election, citing a need to spend more time with his family.

Fraser made the announcement Monday morning at a news conference in Ottawa ahead of a cabinet meeting and the fall economic statement.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has resigned from cabinet, the day she is set to present the fall economic statement. 

In a resignation letter posted to social media, she says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered her another role in cabinet Friday, but that the only "honest and viable path" is to leave cabinet. 

Mail will begin moving again on Tuesday as Canada Post employees return to work for the first time in more than a month after the federal government pushed to end the stoppage.

Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order the 55,000 picketing employees back to work within days if the tribunal determines a deal isn't doable before the end of the year.

Canada Post said Sunday night that after two days of hearings over the weekend, an impasse was declared by the board.
