Some Canadians will be paying more for food in 2025.

That according to the 15th edition of Canada’s Food Price Report, a collaborative effort by Dalhousie University, the University of Guelph, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of British Columbia.

This annual report provides critical insights into food price trends and their drivers, offering Canadians an essential guide to navigating the evolving food landscape.

Drumheller RCMP arrest two people following search warrant

Drumheller RCMP arrested and charged two people following a search warrant issued earlier this week.

Back in July police began a drug trafficking investigation near Drumheller. This led officers to execute a search warrant at around 3:35 a.m. on Thursday (Dec. 12) at a home in the 700 block of Third Avenue in the town.

Police say that two women and one man were arrested at the scene. Officers also located fentanyl, cocaine, cash, and other drug trafficking evidence.

Problems with RCMP police dog program pose 'health and wellness risks': evaluation

The RCMP's police dog training centre has been plagued by staffing shortages, low morale and rundown facilities that pose health risks to officers and canines, an internal review says. 

The evaluation of RCMP police dog services reveals numerous challenges for the program that supplies and trains four-legged helpers to protect VIPs, support emergency teams, and sniff out suspects and illicit drugs.

Strathmore man awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal

Donovan Arnaud, president of the Royal Canadian Legion in Strathmore was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

Arnaud says the medals are issued by the United Kingdom to commonwealth countries like Canada.

"Here in Canada, the medal is offered to the military for various organizations throughout the country,"

According to Arnaud, it's also given to Royal Canadian Legion groups and Members of Parliament to distribute to constituents in their riding.

Strathmore swimmer wins gold at Special Olympics swim meet

Casey Kruse, a Strathmore swimmer with the Silver Sharks Swim Club, came back from a Special Olympics swim meet several weeks ago.

On Tuesday (Dec. 10), the Silver Sharks announced that Kruse had won gold in all six of the events she competed in.

According to Kruse, she began swimming due to her fear of water.

"I got rid of my fear the moment I got comfortable in the water."

The gold-laden swimmer said she wasn't surprised to have won in all six events.

Wheatland EMS tallies final numbers for Hockey for Hunger initiative

The final numbers for the Hockey for Hunger initiative are in.

Students with Crowther Memorial Junior High School, Wheatland County fire departments, and Wheatland EMS collected 774 pounds of food and hygiene items, along with $560 in monetary donations for the Wheatland County Food Bank.

The program showcased Crowther students playing a fun game of hockey while raising funds and donations for a good cause.

"Thank you all so much for your support and helping us give back to the community this holiday season," wrote Wheatland EMS in a Facebook post.

Country music artist Tyler Joe Miller is coming to Strathmore

The Strathmore Ag Society has announced another huge country star coming to Strathmore this summer.

Musician Tyler Joe Miller will be headlining the Friday Night Round Up Concert for the 2025 Strathmore Stampede.

Tickets will go on sale on Monday (Dec. 16) at 8 a.m. and are $44 for the grandstand and $54 for the dirt.

Strathmore removing electronic voting equipment for future elections

The Town of Strathmore will be removing electronic voting equipment for upcoming elections.

An updated Municipal Election Bylaw was presented to Strathmore Town Council on Wednesday (Dec. 11). The changes in the bylaw were updated to align with the Local Authorities Election Act and Municipal Government Act, as required by the province.
