Cochrane RCMP warns motorists to avoid Highway 22 between Cochrane and Sundre due to extremely poor conditions. The advisory, shared by 511 Alberta just after 8 this evening, urges drivers to postpone travel until conditions improve.

 

Update: Reports of another collision in Airdrie

A previous collision causing heavy delays near Yankee Valley Boulevard toward Main Street has been cleared.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and adjust to weather and road conditions, which are expected to deteriorate into the afternoon and overnight.

Snowfall, gusty winds up to 40 km/h, reduced visibility, and temperatures dropping below freezing (–2 C today, –9 C overnight Friday), with wind chills nearing –10 C, are forecast.

Update: Morning collision on QE2 near weigh station disrupts Airdrie traffic

Emergency crews responded to a crash on the southbound QEII Highway near the weigh station early Thursday morning. The incident caused significant traffic delays in both directions, with a fire truck blocking the northbound left lane.

The scene has since been cleared, and traffic is moving normally again. No details on the number of vehicles involved or injuries were confirmed.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes during the incident.

Update: Reports of vehicle fire on QEII near Airdrie

There were reports of a possible vehicle fire on the QEII southbound after the 40 Avenue Overpass.

Fire crews and police responded to the scene, according to motorists.

No further details were available, but drivers had been advised to use caution. The scene has since been cleared.

Update: Airdrie drivers beware: RCMP issue tow ban on Hwy 2 from Edmonton to Hwy 611

On Friday morning, the tow ban on Highway 2 was lifted after Alberta RCMP had issued it the day before, warning of dangerous conditions from Edmonton city limits to Highway 611.

On Thursday, Airdrie commuters traveling north faced treacherous roads, with icy conditions, blowing snow, and freezing rain making travel along the QEII hazardous. Thick fog, black ice, and icy wheel paths had already created challenges, while shoulder ice and freezing rain made the route especially risky.
