A Fog Advisory issued for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield has ended, after Environment Canada warned of near-zero visibility earlier Tuesday morning.

“Fog has developed this morning,” the agency had stated. “Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.”

The advisory remained in effect until late morning, with visibility improving as conditions cleared. Motorists were urged to use caution due to rapidly changing road conditions.

Two road closures are set to begin in Airdrie this week, including a shutdown on Highland Park Way NE and a lane restriction on Big Hill Springs Road SW.

Starting this week

• July 28 – August 8: Highland Park Way NE — full road closure and detour for utility tie-in

• July 28 (7 AM – 7 PM): Big Hill Springs Rd SW & Range Rd 13 SW — lane closure for guard rail repairs

Airdrie residents are facing a wall of summer road, pathway and parking disruptions as the City of Airdrie juggles water repairs, utility work and long-haul rehabilitation projects across major routes.

The longest closure now underway is on Main Street SE between Elk Hill and Erin Drive. Temporary lane closures are expected to continue through a phased approach until August 31, 2026, to accommodate road rehabilitation.

Airdrie RCMP and other emergency responders are no longer on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 9 South of Irricana.

Traffic on Highway 9 between Highway 567 and Township Road 270 was being redirected while emergency workers responded and police investigated.

A traffic incident shut down access to Stoney Trail near 69th Street SW on Friday evening, but Calgary police say all affected routes have since reopened.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 8 were closed at Bragg Creek for several hours, cutting off access to Stoney Trail. Access from Bow Trail was also restricted during the closure.

Calgary Police Service issued an advisory asking drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

A portion of downtown Airdrie's Main Street will shut down on Canada Day morning as thousands line the route for the city’s biggest parade of the year — part of a full-day celebration that spans breakfast, multicultural showcases and late-night fireworks.

A vehicle fire temporarily slowed traffic on the QEII southbound near the Carstairs overpass Thursday afternoon.

A truck and trailer caught fire on the right-hand side of the highway, according to one account. Although 511 Alberta did not report the incident, Google traffic showed delays in the area at the time.

The scene has since been cleared.

New traffic signals at Towerlane Drive and Elk Hill are expected to be operational today, part of a wider slate of summer roadwork that includes lane closures, pathway detours and full road reconstruction across Airdrie.

The city says the Towerlane signal will replace the mid-block pedestrian crossing near ATB, with landscaping and curb repairs to follow. The signal upgrade comes ahead of a major rebuild of Main Street between Elk Hill and Erin Drive, set to begin in early July.

A previous collision, as initially reported by Airdrie transit, which warned that "road traffic accident that has completely closed the Balzac bridge" has been cleared. 

There is no word on the number of vehicles involved, though motorists can expect delays.
